Never really hunted a big cold front like this one. Would the deer just lay down with all the wind? Are with this extreme cold force them to be on the move? Just curious because it's a four hour drive to the property and I would hate to go down there for nothing. It would just be a quick day and a half hunt. What are your thoughts and or experiences with cold fronts.

I killed one of my biggest bucks in a 20+ mph wind on the morning after a big cold front hit the previous evening in Kansas. I was in the stand that evening when the front hit and it sounded like a freight train coming. I must have heard it for a couple of minutes before it actually hit.

There's also the old adage, "You can't kill them on the couch."

I also believe it depends on the region. Deer in east Texas are probably more likely to hunker down in a high wind. Deer in a place like Kansas or the Texas Panhandle? Just another day in the office with all the wind.

I say go. You can't kill 'em on the couch. Good luck.

Yes I would, I don’t have to kill anything I just like getting out.
My places in Burleson and Leon counties I think they would lay up in the youpons more, but in Coleman they are use to the wind.

I'd hunt the day/s before or day/s after but not day of front. My experience is that deer generally do not prefer sustained winds of 20+ mph. Just haven't seen nearly as much hunting South Texas or NW Texas in real high winds
Before or after, it is usually high deer movements. Ese, take that day off and watch you some bowl games, maybe Alamo Bowl and your Horns....

I agree, it seems like the day before a major cold front has been the best hunting over the years in my observation.

3 of my best bucks I've killed with fresh fronts blowing 20mph or so.
However, they are saying 35-40 on this one so I think I'd sit it out until it calmed down a bit.

I've also noticed that once the temps drop below say 25 in S TX and below 20 out west, the deer movement isn't great at daybreak at all and they seem to move much more after the sun comes up and it begins to warm just a little bit.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I've seen some big bucks out in the pasture on days the fronts blow in as long as it isn't just blowing rain. This is a dry front so it should be good.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

26 and snowing in Shackelford county. 6 doe and 1 buck so far. I figured they would have been moving yesterday, but not here. This North wind is brutal.

If I could go I’d go but I hunt when I can.

I always thought the colder the better for deer movement, but the slowest hunts I remember were with snow on the ground in south texas.

Hunt when you can! Can’t get those days back. I’m not like the majority of the guys here that are retired or landowners that can walk out the back door. My days are limited when I can get to the lease so weather doesn’t stop me.

I cant get put until tomorrow, but my experience tells me high winds like today the deer dont like, tomorrow will be slowing to 10-ish mph winds so they should be out moving.

Hoping to get my son on a buck i saw a couple weeks back and he wants to shoot him. Nice old bruiser but not wide at all, so he would never score well, just be a cool looking buck

My son and grandson hunted Leon county this morning and seen the biggest buck we have seen all season, he was across the fence in the neighbors.
They saw more deer than we have been seeing.
We’re headed to Coleman county next week

I would suggest you not go hunting until the wind dies down for obvious reasons....... bolt

Oh we'll be at the Alamo bowl with bells on you can bet on that.
