Thursday will be interesting, because, I have to set up for a south wind and then change everything for a strong North Wind during the hunt. It will be interesting to see what birds arrive ahead of the front.

Friday I might have to go against the grain and hunt what I think will be the only open water, but , wind will be in my face. Note I hunt smaller bodies of water and some of my stuff still is not full.

Will be down at the coast and plan to hunt my spot from sun up to sun down. This will be a walk in spot on a North shoreline and bringing a rod with soft plastics in case it looks like ducks are no shows…It’s important to note though that l have never killed a duck at this spot (hunted twice). However Thursday is a 50/50 day….Meaning with this weather you can now go to a spot that you had a zero chance yesterday of killing a duck to now it’s gone up to where you got a 50% chance….Going to be epic boys or a complete bust lol. Man forget the duck hunting..... I like the fishing aspect. Heck yea.....Good luck! I am in North Texas and we will see how it goes. We have being doing ok but hopefully those green headed pests will show up....

Looks like a great spot. Just take 6 shells each day and see how you do.

I just wear mossy oak camp and have been shooting cheap shells. We’re not pros. With the shells I’ve been shooting it wouldn’t be great. For some reason the hevi steel and my gun do not agree and I’ve had way too many cripples. Shot this guy 25 yards in front of the blind feet down landing in the water and he shook it off.




Found a few of the old shells I liked and took two of the the ring necks with one shot each at 40 yards. Stone dead.



I shot at the teal and literally watched the bb run out the end of barrel and jamb the gun. So I’m done with the hevi steel ammo.

I normally shoot the cheapest shells I can find and don"t jam up my gun.

Depends on the diver duck situation at our place. I hope the front pushes them out and brings my mallards back.
We did have 2 good shoots last weekend. 2 mornings and 48 birds. And let numerous groups of jacks land and go!

It was a joke… but there is something wrong with these last two boxes of hevi steel I’ve got. Those two teal came in and I went to shoot. Pellets went about a foot out of the end of the barrel and didn’t even make it out of the blind and shell didn’t eject. Not sure what’s going on with them. Switched to some black clouds my buddy was shooting and all the problems were gone. So most likely will trash these two last boxes I have left. Got a box of boss shells on the way to try out and see how the bismuth shoots. Never shot them before but don’t think they will be here in time for this weekend.

Sounds like 2 good shoots. Nice…. I hunted last Thursday and we got a 5 man limit. Teal, Widgeon, Gadwalls…..Been busy doing Christmas Parties and not been back out. Going to hit them hard Thursday and Friday. I expect some Greenheads….I am just happy we have water now. Not full in my lakes but atleast enough to hunt.

Good luck! I am expecting a good weekend as well. Cause our water went down. When the water is up it floods a few thousand acres of timber all around my marsh and gives them all kinds of places to be. When the water isn’t flooding we’ve got about two foot in the marsh and not much water around us.

If the birds are here, we will. It's going to be cold laying in a field with -20 and colder windchill though with nothing to break the wind except a 5 wire barbed wire fence.

Just be safe if you’re in a boat or even wading in the water!

Scouting this afternoon, OK pond tomorrow, big water on Fri, then bigger (hopefully not locked up) water on Sat.

I'll skip this one in the boat, I'm getting too old for it. Pics below, 16 degrees that morning. When I got out of the water I took a few steps and froze like a statue. I thought something was wrong with me, then I realized my waders froze solid. Everything froze, my gun froze. Then when I was ready to head back to the ramp, I noticed my motor was froze!! Covered in ice!! Then when I pulled it to start it, the pull cord snapped! Good thing it started first pull!! I still had my warm coffee tho.

Seriously, if you plan on taking a boat out, give it second thoughts. In north Texas tomorrow morning, I would be off the water when that front hits packing 25mph winds and temps dropping like a rock. And Friday morning 12 degrees, look at my pics above with 16 degrees.

We’re going out in boat. Taking 2 in case of failure in one. Short boat ride though and definitely no big water.

Going out to Fannin county Friday morning, luckily it's private land so we dont have to worry about the boat issue

Just saying, my wifes cousin is a widow because her husband went duck hunting with an arctic front coming, boat flipped they swam to an island and died of hyperthermia, he never told anyone where they were going. Let someone know where and when you should be home. Good luck to you all.
