What are your thoughts and or experiences with cold fronts.

3 of my best bucks I've killed with fresh fronts blowing 20mph or so.
However, they are saying 35-40 on this one so I think I'd sit it out until it calmed down a bit.

I've also noticed that once the temps drop below say 25 in S TX and below 20 out west, the deer movement isn't great at daybreak at all and they seem to move much more after the sun comes up and it begins to warm just a little bit.

The wind out in the Trans Pecos region is ridiculous.....

I'm gonna sit this one out, my son and his wife are coming down from Fort Worth and will be staying with us. Gonna have to stay home and spend some time with them.

Same here, I go whenever I can get away. That's why I was thinking I could squeeze a quick hunt in and be back before Christmas. I wanted to hunt atleast 3 times this season, but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen.

Yep, I wanted to get out there and knock down a buck myself, I already got myself a doe, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

Agree with all of the above, but I have found (in my area) that the deer will happily 'shelter' out of the wind and cold for a day....when conditions get bad enough. Then resume their activities when things settle a bit.

Thankfully we are not getting precipitation with this front, so the deer will continue to move until things get intolerable.

In my area temperature is not as big a factor as is the wind.

That sounds like a plan sir!

Fully agree with this,

Yup. This is Hall County during the same front we're discussing with pretty good movement and that's just at the feeder my cell cam overlooks. Bitter cold and I can feel the wind from here. I have another pic at 5 degrees too. geekfreak

Just had a mature buck cruise by the kitchen window, on the prowl for a girlfriend.

I’ll be in the blind tomorrow morning in Webb County near Bruni. Temps are forecasted around 25 degrees and about 15 mph wind. I debated on going but figured what do I have to lose. Will be hunting the afternoon and Christmas Eve morning as well then back home.

Tomorrow should be killer. I bet they were bedded down most of today.

Up in the air on an artic front, but one year I drove 2 hrs on ice to hunt. We saw one deer in two days. Checked the cameras a week later and once the ice started melting the deer showed up in herds. Lesson learned!

I have noticed that after a cold front that brings rain for multiple day finally breaks, and the sun comes out so do the deer.

After the front skip tomorrow. Our deer lock down with this wind and extreme cold combined.
