Wanted to share a picture of my daughter and her hog from yesterday. She shot it with my 300 Ham’r through both shoulders. DRT. The night before she shot through a sow as big as this pig and killed another behind it. Clean pass throughs. Incredibly satisfying round. Awesome!!! You must be a very proud daddy. Do you suppose Santa will put a Ham'r in her stocking this year?

Yes I think Santa will be building another 300Ham’r for her. Funny how kids claim guns they like. So glad both my daughters go sit in the woods with me. I’m a lucky guy.

Question. Looking on the Wilson combat site for load data…. 130gr Speer HP shows max load on CFEBLK 26.2gr. I pulled a bullet out of a factory round and got 27.0gr…… any ideas as to why the difference is so large?

Different lots have performed slightly different and I’m sure they are taking that into account to keep the reloading data conservative. Work up at your own risk.

Different lots have performed slightly different and I’m sure they are taking that into account to keep the reloading data conservative. Work up at your own risk. It's a combination of powder lot variations (CFEBLK has a LOT) and conservative load data like most published load data is, then throw in velocity variations from barrel to barrel working up data. I use two different barrels when working up my personal loads, both are 1-15 16" and one is 40fps faster than the other one !!! Both air gauge virtually identical bore dimensions??? Why do solid copper bullets shoot much better with A1680 than they do with CFEBLK when the powders are the same except for the copper fouling eraser???? The mfg St Marks designates one as 680 and one as 680X. Why does a 50fps change in velocity turn a sub 1" load into a 2" load??? Etc, etc, etc .... Like every ballistic expert I've talked with says "ammo load work up is all voodoo anyway", there are just too many variables......

Thanks Bill, I was really hoping to avoid having to ladder test these and just match your factory rounds... but that does make sense..... so ladder test it is. I've had great performance out of the box of 200 130GR HPs I've been shooting.

Due to an unprecedented demand for our AR barrels we are having to make some hard choices on production to enable us to fill the most customer orders. In order to maximize our production and deliver the most barrels WITHOUT sacrificing any quality we must run higher quantities of fewer calibers and variations per production run. Until this massive panic buying subsides we will only be producing barrels in the following calibers and fewer variations within these calibers.
.223/5.56 6.5 Creedmoor .300 Blackout 300 HAM'R .308 Win .458 SOCOM
How does this affect the 300 HAM'R???
Since the 1-13 twist is the most versatile for all suitable bullet weights and we must produce this twist for the popular 11.3" length barrels we will only be producing barrels with the 1-13 twist rate. The variations we are going to focus due to past sales numbers are:
11.3" SBR (round) 16" Ranger (round) 16" Recon (round) 18" Tactical Hunter (fluted)
Once this "PANIC" eventually subsides, we will resume production of more lengths and profiles. If there is still a demand for 1-15 twist barrels we will also resume production of them.
I know we've discussed the pros and cons of the two twist rates here before, but as a brief refresher....
1-13: Shoots all bullet weights from 95gr to 150gr well Is optimal for 130gr-150gr bullets
1-15: Shoots all bullet weights from 95gr to 150gr well, however at extremely cold temperatures of below zero some 150gr bullets may become unstable Is optimal for 95gr-130gr bullets
I know some of you are thinking, "why do we have two twist rates anyway"???
When the cartridge was originally developed we were relying on A1680 powder and we couldn't safely reach the velocities we wanted for 150gr bullets. So we focused on 125gr-130gr load development and the 1-15 twist tested (we tested 1-11.25, 1-12, 1-13, 1-14 and 1-15) out to be the most accurate with these bullet weights. Fast forward to when we discovered CFEBLK and we found that we were no longer limited to 130gr bullets, that we could actually equal the time proven .30-30 Win velocities with 150gr bullets at safe pressures. At this point we did more testing and found the 1-13 twist to be optimal for 135gr-150gr bullets and it eliminated the possibility of a 150gr bullet becoming unstable in extreme cold weather conditions.
Since I shoot a lot of 135gr-150gr bullets I "personally" prefer the 1-13 twist.
Lastly, we just finished a pretty good sized run of 1-15 twist barrels and think we will be able to fill our current existing orders for these. Bill - I saw your post about which 300 Ham'r barrel was the best seller. I purchased my Ranger (1-13) based of the above quote. What changed, I was thinking the 1-15 was being phased out but now it is you favorite barrel?

What changed, I was thinking the 1-15 was being phased out but now it is you favorite barrel? We virtually never get a accuracy complaint on a 1-15, but do occasionally on 1-13 so we're focusing on the original 1-15 twist. Both will shoot well, but we've found the 1-15 to shoot a wider variety of bullets well. It's a similar situation to the .308, 1-10s shoot match bullets great but are picky with hunting bullets while the 1-11.25 shoots both hunting and match bullets well. Personally I have 1-11.25, 1-12, 1-13, 1-14 and 1-15 barrels and with the right load all will shoot sub 1"

I am looking to build the wife a lightweight hunter in 300 Ham'R so I can get mine back. I am looking at "BARREL, 300 HAM'R, RANGER, 16", ROUND, STAINLESS, GLASS BEAD, 1-13, 1-13 Item Number: TR-300HRAMG16RT13". We mostly shoot "300 HAM'R | 130GR, SPEER HAM'R HOT-CORE, 2500 FPS - 18" BARREL, NICKEL CASE, 20/BOX BARREL, NICKEL CASE, 20/BOX Item :A300HMR-130-HHC-N" for hogs and deer. I have been pleased with the performance of mine with "Wilson Combat 300 HAM'R Tactical Hunter Fluted AR-15 Barrel - 18" 1:13". She is small at 5'1" so really trying to keep the weight down and build a fast-handling rifle. What are your thoughts on using this barrel to build a rifle around? Anything I'm not thinking of or should look at before purchasing the barrel?

If your primarily shooting the 130gr HHC I'd go with a Ranger 1-15 twist
