That is so cool. We have a few small Owls but I have only seen one and it was dead. That was a Boreal Owl.
A Saw Whit Owl nested across the road from my place. I never did see it but from May through July I would hear it every evening.

It would start calling right at dusk and go non stop until first light.
At first I didn't know what it was but on a hunch I looked up Saw Whit Owl calls and it was a perfect match.
I found it's nest hole and waited till dark a few times in the hopes of photographing it but it never came out until after dark.

I believe there are also Screech Owls in the area but I've never seen or heard one.

I see more Great Grays then anything else. On one fishing trip last summer I counted 8 Great Grays while driving home.

Pocket Gophers are where the carnival game whack a mole must have come from. The only effective way I have found is to be quick and accurate with a .22 when they are digging and popping up and down.

Awesome owl pictures!! I have a theory this year that they are some how connected to my ability to see and harvest deer. Before each shot this year, I have seen an owl close by swooping from one tree to another. It is coincidence I am sure, but I am hunting old Apache land...

The older natives around here believe one's enamies can inhabit Owls and use them to spy on others. They believe seeing an Owl is bad juju

Interesting. When I shot my Whitetail last season, the blind sit began with a pair of Great Horned Owls talking tree to tree before first light.

Barred owl that lives close to the house:

[Linked Image]

This was taken from inside my family room through the double pane window. Tree is about 4 or 5 yards from the window and it was snowing. That particular owl and i have some history. I was trying out a new coyote caller and rabbit decoy one afternoon in the backyard and that bugger swooped in and flew away with the decoy.

I have a couple of Barred Owls that hang around the area and sometimes come into my yard. I've tried photographing them but they always come in when there isn't enough light for a decent photo.

But I love haviing them around. They have such an interesting call.

Knew I had another one. Barred Owl on a very cold Kansas morning deer hunt. He was watching me quite closely as I sat in a natural blind near the fence line and pinch point. Their camo is amazing.
