Just discovered LOCAL BBQ on Old Bullard Rd. ( the street behind Chuy's ) It's been open almost a year and we just happened across it while looking for BBQ that was NOT Stanley's or Rudy's.

Sliced brisket was excellent. Just right amount of smoke flavor, tender and moist with a perfect smoke ring. Wife got a huge pulled pork sandwich which she said was delicious. Potato salad was not your run of the mill kind and was delicious. Cole slaw was good but not as good as the potato salad. BBQ sauce was a little spicy- but just the right amount.

Prices are competitive and quality is well worth it in my opinion.

The owner is a friendly young local guy and he is trying to build his business slowly but surely. It was obvious from talking with him that he really cares about producing and serving excellent BBQ.

We will be going back.

I highly recommend LOCAL BBQ in Tyler.

We just told our GS, who is in Tyler for a year or so, about Local BBQ. He says he knows where it is and will try it this weekend. Said he recently went to Stanley’s but wasn’t impressed. He says that Cooper’s in Llano really impressed him, so that’s his present standard of BBQ excellence. Let’s see what he has to say after the weekend. We’ll be over there soon, so if he likes it, we’ll try it.

Went to Stanley about a year ago. Pretty good but small portions and expensive. Overrated. The young crowd doesn`t seem to be bothered by overpriced food.

The best BBQ is outside town off Hwy 31. Pat Gets is a staple of East Texas BBQ.

We are in Tyler more times than any other towns except Dallas, and always open for BBQ, so many thanks for the heads up. I'll find it if its north of Janies antique shop across the hwy from Brookshires.

The address is 5875 Old Bullard Rd. Suite 500. Old Bullard runs parallel to South Broadway one block west. I have only eaten there once but was so impressed by the quality of the food and the sincerity of the owner that I just had to let people know about my experience. I am confident my next visit will be just as good and I think you will be satisfied as well.

P.S. I have heard of Gee's BBQ for years but have never tried it. I've always heard good things about it. It is a little out of the way but apparently worth the effort to find.

Ate lunch there today to see if the brisket is as good the second time. Proud to say it is still the best I have found in the area.

Ate "The Beauty" which is chopped brisket, hot link sandwich covered in queso.
Brisket is excellent-no fat anywhere! Hot link is good. Queso is different and honestly just OK.
Wife ate pulled pork again and said it was as good this time as the first time.

Tried the beans and they are the best barbecue joint beans in the area. Really good and very similar to Jucy's beans. Potato salad was spot on again.

I look for consistency in BBQ and so far I am quite pleased.

Will be interested to see what you think of the ribs. I will bet they are good. I'm a brisket fan and that is what I will stick with every time.

Ate there at 6 pm today. The ribs were very good, though a bit small. Their spicy bbq sauce was good. You rate the tater salad higher than I did, but it was still good. Beans were a touch spicy, which is good, and they were better than average bbq joint beans. The wife had the sliced brisket, and she said it was good. The Grandson had the Beauty sandwich and pronounced it very good. The GS rated it better than Stanley’s, but not a lot better.

This place was not as good as the Lum’s in Junction, and I think the bbq joint on Lake Limestone is also better than Local BBQ (bigger portions too), but that’s just my opinion. The wife agrees.

If we rate 407 as a 10, I’d put Lum’s at 8 or 9, the Lake Limestone place at a 7. Local’s BBQ rates a bit lower.

Again, it’s just my opinion, which is worth every cent you paid me.

Thanks for the report. You tried a variety of the offerings and gave your honest opinion. Nothing wrong with that.

I am glad to know you found it good so I don't feel bad for recommending it.

I look for consistency in BBQ and that is something I have found problematic with Stanley's, Rudy's, Cooper's (Llano) and several other BBQ joints I have tried more than a couple times. Truth be known, the most consistently delicious brisket I ever ate was made by my son's Scoutmaster!

One of these days I plan to make it to 407 as I have heard nothing but great reviews and will check out Lum's the next time I make it to Junction. BBQ may be the most subjective food out there and I guess one of the reasons there are so many BBQ joints-good,bad and otherwise!

Had lunch here today, had the brisket, dry and tough. Cole slaw was decent.

One a scale of 1 to 10, it gets a 6, really a closer to a 5. Place is not much on service.

Local BBQ is legit. I grew up in Tyler and my dad took me to eat there a few months ago. Had the sliced brisket, potato salad, and beans and everything was very tasty. Cool spot
