My left index finger knuckle, where the finger joins the hand is hurting. Doesn’t always hurt, but the pain is not predicable. As I am not the only wore out old SOB on the forum, maybe some of you have suggestions on best treatment or best pain killer. The bad news is that the knuckle hurts. The good news is that’s the only painful arthritis ridden joint so far. I wish there was more good news.

My hands have started aching at night while I am asleep. After I flex them a few times all is better. I think it is from holding onto the phone, iPad, etc.
I haven't tried it yet but have heard good things about Voltaren.

You have to start taking gin & raisins.

I have it in multiple joints. You are going to have to live with it. Weather is not your friend.

I did try the Voltaren, which the doctor gave me for my sore shoulder. Rubbed a small amount on that sore knuckle and 10 minutes later the pain reduced. Hmmm. it’s a bit early to start praising the stuff, but no doubt the pain is noticeably less.
Gin and raisins? Does that work, or is it just the Gin working?

I've got it pretty bad too. Hands swell up at night and now I take my wedding ring off at night. No good remedies, but a couple bourbons before bed helps a bit.

I used the Voltaren again just before bed, and I took an Advil. Slept pretty well, and this morning the hand doesn’t hurt at all. I don’t know why it doesn’t hurt, but I’ll just be happy with no pain for now.
I think the Voltaren works, at least to some degree. More testing will happen.

I deal with it and other inflamed pains. I take a Meloxicam (Mobic) daily plus about 6 X 650mg Tylenol Arthritis, morning, noon and night. Gabapentin for Stenosis.
January 13 having partial fusion of my right wrist. Gonna suk bad.
Pretty much just live with pain every day. Feet are terrible, keep me from walking far without bad pain.
Getting older suks. I just hate having to "slow down". Another reason I'm thinning my gun inventory.

Getting older suks. I just hate having to "slow down". Another reason I'm thinning my gun inventory. That's a lot of Tylenol to take every day, Buzz. 4000 mg is the max and you're knocking on the door of it. Might try alternating with Ibuprofen (Motrin), it's better for inflammation.

Monitor your liver function with the higher dosage of Tylenol.

Acetaminophen is metabolized in the liver. Ibuprofen is metabolized in the kidneys. Pick your poison. I would take DocHorton's advice and alternate. I have some kidney issues, so I tend to stay away from the Ibuprofen.

Try drinking grape juice with a little pectin. Works for me and also for about ten friends I have told about it.

Since being put on blood thinners I had to stop taking arthritis medication. My hands are the worst. Gabapentin at night helps marginally. Some days I can’t open a drink bottle. CBD salve helps a little bit. Had some given to me to try. Other than that I just hurt all the time.

I have some marijuana cream one of my sisters pothead friends makes. It helps a lot! I was surprised. It works better than anything I’ve tried. It does make you smell like Cheech and Chong. No buzz though.

Go read the side effects of all the rx drugs you are taking. And tylenol is the #1 killer of all over the counter meds. Many people die every year from taking Tylenol, my friend died from taking 3 of them. Absolutely causes liver damage as well. Most arthritis symptoms are caused by parasitic inflammation. Take Ivermectin and see if it works for you. It is safe with no side effects like those prescription drugs. The worst that can happen is you get rid of parasites and inflammation in your body/joints and many other helpful attributes to boot.

I have arthritis in both my hands and after the Dr. putting me on Fish Oil tablets in an effort to raise my HDL levels for cholesterol didn't help the HDL but after about 3 months my arthritis did not bother me. He told me later that several studies had shown that fish oil did show promise for a lot of people.

My back has been killing me for about a month. I’ve tried walking it off, Aleve, Extra Strength Tylenol, etc to no effect. BTW, this is post polio syndrome.
Was at Walmart yesterday and found a back pain patch. What the heck; I’ll give it a try.
It WORKS! No pain! I’m going back to Walmart and try to corner the market on them.

2 weeks ago the back of my hand became inflamed and my fingers got stiff after digging a hole at the farm. Swelling & stiffness would come and go. Symptoms are mostly gone now except some occasionally sharp shooting pain when I'm working. Hope it goes away. I don't need another ailment or the need to take more meds.

Well grape juice is probably good for you no matter what. On the pectin? How much? Do you mix it with the grape juice?

Mix it about 3 parts grape juice to one part pectin.

Lots of different brands. Just go to WM and look in the pharmacy area.

I've got a neighbor that has a daughter that has rheumatoid arthritis really bad. She has taken everything and the best thing so far is ivermectin. I take it for trigger finger and it works awesome. It also works great for gout.

I've been putting off going back for a while now.

All that fence fixing and associated wire bending has really aggravated the arthritis in my left hand. Was hurting pretty bad about an hour ago. I remembered that Voltaren and put some on the offending knuckle and the pain has ebbed away. It must work. Can’t be a coinkydink.

My wife went and took some ivermectin immediately after I read this to her. As for the Voltaren, the neighbor with the really bad knee, which he said hurts badly 24/7, rubbed some on his knee and shortly after that said his knee didn’t hurt. Could have been the whisky though, since by then I wasn’t feeling any pain either.

After being diagnosed with heart problems , my Dr. put me on FISH OIL tablets in order to maybe get my HDL up. I started taking them and after about 6 months Dr. checked HDL again with the same results as before. He suggested that I continue to take them and would test me again. 6 months later , I was tested again with the same results but this time I asked the Dr. why my hands had ceased to be stiff with mild pain in the mornings when I first woke up. He grinned and said some tests had proven that fish oil tablets helped with Arthritis. That was about 10 years ago and I am still taking 2-1000 milligram fish oil tablets every day, never has helped with the heart. Daniel

This is going to sound crazy, but my ex-Father-in-law used to get arthritis pretty bad in his hand and when it flared up, he said he would stick his hand up nears a wasp net and get stung a couple of times. I looked at him and said no thanks, I'll just take Tylenol. Granted, he also used to drink a couple of glasses of Aloe Vera juice every day and swore it would cure anything.
Thanks, Rich

I’m still on 3 of the Walmart Lidocane patches per day. They last about 8 hours. Wife has to put them on me. No way I can put a limp patch on my lower back. At night she puts a piece of tape on each end of the patch so my rolling around doesn’t rub them off. Have to wear a TShirt. Then, in the morning, I hit the taped place with alcohol to remove the tape residue. If not, the tape crap makes my back break out.
It’s a PITA but it keeps me going without living with pain.

I had never had any problems with arthritis until I took hydrocodone for several months after breaking my calcaneous. It got to the point where I was not sure I could hold a fishing rod if I got a large fish. No problems after getting off the pain meds.

I've had it for a few years now. Started in my left hand and has now moved to my right hand. Mainly effects my thumb joints and my wrist. My wrist like to swell. Seems worse in hot weather. Cold or cool water feels good on them. Too much work with my hands out here. No way around it, though. I don't take pain meds. Just put up with it.

Grit, I understand about not taking pain meds. I put up with this crap for a long time due to the fact that I don’t do dope of any mind. As a child of the 60’s, I watched everyone else smoke weed, take pills etc to get high. My brother and sister smoked that stuff until their deaths from cancer. I don’t think there was any correlation from the MJ to the cancer. Gotta admit, I kept the breweries working overtime. But, I saw a lot of friends gravitate from drugs of one kind to something stronger while searching for a high. That wasn’t for me. I just kept saying give me another beer.
Another Doc has said that it could be post polio syndrome. I had a fairly mild case of that when I was about 9 years old. It left me with a weak back and drew up my hamstrings so that I had to stretch them out so I could re learn to walk. I still walk up to a wall every morning to stretch my hamstrings. PITA but I’m one of the lucky and few survivors. I’m now 80 and have to walk at least a mile per day. (Most days).
My Doc has said 2 extra strength Tylenols 3 times per day. That sounds like a lot to me of anything but I’m not a doctor. I’m alternating between Tylenol and aspirin. But, on days that I have nothing to do, I just sit in the recliner with a book or TV. No pain while sitting on my dead [censored].

I had trigger finger in my middle finger of my left hand. Got a steroid shot and was good for about 6mo until it came back, also started getting numbness in that hand. Got the nerve test and was diagnosed with CT. Had surgery last month and all is well now.

Dave, it's good you never got into the drug scene. Nothing good ever comes out of that. Yeah I put up with the pain, because like yourself, I'm not into taking meds if I don't have to. Sorry about your past health issues, but sounds like you're quite the fighter and will get by no matter what. Best to you and stay strong.

I got surgery on my left hand, but never had it done on my right. The arthritis is worse in my left hand though so go figure. I used to have the numbness, but no more. Happy to hear your surgery went well. Best.

Dont know how long its been since you had the one hand fixed, but surgey now rakes more time to stick you back up then fix. I have had both hand/elbow fixed for carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome fixed. Each time it was less then 10 days before I was back up and running

Happy to hear your surgery went well. Best. Arthritis makes carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome worse. Dont know how long its been since you had the one hand fixed, but surgey now rakes more time to stick you back up then fix. I have had both hand/elbow fixed for carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome fixed. Each time it was less then 10 days before I was back up and running It's been, probably, 15 years or more.

Have you been tested for Carpal Tunnel? I had trigger finger in my middle finger of my left hand. Got a steroid shot and was good for about 6mo until it came back, also started getting numbness in that hand. Got the nerve test and was diagnosed with CT. Had surgery last month and all is well now. Hey, Jimbo. Yes, I've had carpal tunnel for years. Each time it was less then 10 days before I was back up and running Had my left hand done June 16 and took longer for me to wake up than the surgery. I was back working at the lease 2 weeks later. DR said it might take a year to fully heal and to just let up when it started hurting. He's done both my arms for "tennis elbow," my wife's both hands for CT, and now my left hand. He treats us as family now after all these years!

My family Doc recently told me that it was safe for me to take 2 extra strength Tylenols 3 times per day for my back and knee pain from Arthritis. I’m not real knowledgeable regarding this stuff but that sounds like an overload to me. I’m doing it twice per day. Seems to be working somewhat or maybe OK. I’m walking a mile per day(most days) and sometimes do it twice. Admittedly, sometimes the back pain and forgetfulness keeps me home.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

Watch your liver function while taking higher doses of Tylenol/Acetaminophen.

Sometimes I take 1 tylenol and 1 ibuprofen together and that seems to work. Too much of either is not good.

Sometimes I take 1 tylenol and 1 ibuprofen together and that seems to work. Too much of either is not good. It's not, but that combination is okay because Ibuprofen is an NSAID and is processed through the kidneys. Tylenol is processed through the liver. You don't want to take 2 NSAIDs together because it can overload the kidneys.

My Rheumatologist just put me on Hydroxychloroquine for arthritis pain in my hands. She said it’s safer and more effective then OTC pain killers. It takes a couple of weeks to but it seems to be working great.

My hand pain mostly went away for a good while, but with all the lathe turning last week and chainsawing today, my left hand was talking to me just now. I’ll take an Advil soon. This aging business is a problem sometimes.

I had a bird dog I was teaching to Heel a couple of years ago. I snapped him back with the choke chain and injured my pinkey. That SOB hurt for two years. I switched from cold beer to Vodka and it went away!

I have bad osteoarthritis all over.
I take a bc arthritis powder with an alka seltzer cold (the one that fizzes) every morning when I wake up.
sounds nuts but it works. my spine puts carlsbad caverns to shame for stuff hangin down.

My Doc has me on 2 extra strength Tylenols 3 times per day. Seems to help when I remember to take it.
Bottom line is that if I bend my back, the pain hits.

I had to quit using the back pain pads. They worked but the adhesive glue burnt my back. Evidently an allergy. When I leave the house or really do much of anything I wear a Walmart back brace to keep me from bending. It kinda works.

You guys should ask your docs about Meloxicam. It was pretty popular several years ago, but wasn’t there some sort of side effect issue that caused it to be unpopular for use?

I have it in multiple joints. You are going to have to live with it. Weather is not your friend. ^^^^^^^^^^^ What Don posted. Usedta pop 500gm ibuprofen like candy till found out not good for liver or kidney. Get ne of them thar soft balls ta squeeze. Keep the joints limber. See your Dr. Best wish's.

Gosh I've been on it for years. I do have to have my blood work done every 6 months monitoring any issues which might pop up.

Still popular but as with any NSAID, kidney damage is a possible issue, but it’s way better for you than high dosage ibuprofen. Meloxicam suppose to be easier on stem cells

This may sound crazy but what helps me sometimes is to wear one of those rubber type medical gloves for a while. Your hand will get sweaty and after I take it off my hand will be very limber and not hurt for a while.
