Congrat's to the young man on his Trophy.

There seems to be an assumption that all the local bucks are coming to the feeder.

In my experience that may not be the case.

Back in the early 2000's my brother and I were hunting deer on his farm. We had over a dozen cameras out and figured we were seeing all the bucks that were in the area, which we pegged at eight, counting spikes and anything bigger.

Then bro over flowed a bin and wound up with about 20 bushels of wheat on the ground. After a couple of days we started seeing a few does coming in late in the day but no bucks.

Bro speculated that one or two bucks might be sneaking in after dark so we parked an old, well weathered pickup within sight of the pile and at dusk we went and sat in it to see if anything came in after dark.

They came all right, at least 26 distinctly different bucks and possibly over 28.

The point being there may be some bruisers there that simply aren't coming in. And even if there isn't, one could well move in from neighboring habitat.

If it were my choice I'd let him take the buck he wants.

His memories are more important to me than my trophy wall. Actually I don't even have a trophy wall.
And I gave the biggest buck I ever shot to a friends relative from New Hampshire.

That buck was two points short of making book.
