We just passed a big mature 9 point (with the right brow tine being the longest I have ever seen) coming into our neighborhood (northern Bexar) and we also saw him on the way out earlier, both times running hard looking for love. Seems kinda early, but what do I know.

I still have a few bucks hanging out in pairs. But I saw nothing this evening. Not even a coon.

Only saw one deer all day and that was a nice three year old eight point that has a double throat patch. I let him pass hoping he will be better next year. What was funny was he came up to the feed pin smelt the top of the gate were I have it patched with wire did the same at the bottom then turn and looked right at the stand. Then he just turned to his left walked up the hill towards the stand and when he got even with the stand he stopped and looked at it again and then walked off never took a bite of corn.

Hoping the spike that looks like a axis shows up in the morning.

Six doe and 1 young buck here in Montague this evening. Saw more than anyone else. Neighbors kid shot a buck. Used my hitch rack to take to the processor. Cameras aren't promising but once rut hits hope we are in the blind. No rut at all so far. Usually a few weeks out.

Well good luck to all those going out this morning. I seen a lot of people on the road yesterday morning heading to camp. 4 more days before I am in the woods!

We’ve been seeing solid deer, but just not seeing the outliers we had hoped for before the drought took its toll in the later winter/spring/summer. I suspect we’ll let a lot of 5 and 6 year olds walk in the hopes of a wet spring. I’m not complaining by any means, just assessing.

Seeing. Some solid deer numbers, healthy, but nothing that makes me want to shoot .

I have some dandy potential bucks if they make it and stick around.

Same in Leon county, nothing this morning, we have been seeing deer every sit so far not a lot.
With the acorns and the full moon , plus some idiots turned their hog dogs loose yesterday and ran deer right by us, doesn’t help.
Disrespectful to turn dogs loose during deer season and on property you don’t have permission to be on.
I want to be a good neighbor but that’s not good.
Rant over, sorry.

We had someone’s dogs on our ranch last week chasing deer all over the place while I was hog hunting

I think it’s just the acorns and full moon…

We had a storm Friday that knocked down tons of acorns. Sounded crazy on the metal roof of the house

I usually see at least around 10 deer

I haven’t seen anything today… only about 7 yesterday running thought the woods

And NOTHING is coming to the feeders:.. just untouched piles of corn under it

I've got a big 10 on camera that I've been hoping to see this weekend. I've seen everything but him. I decided to take one of the fat does that have been like clockwork here. So far this morning, I've seen a small 8, 2 spikes, a big 8, a forkhorn, and a button buck. Zero does. Of course.

So far this morning I had a two year old fork horn and a fawn and that’s it. I had no idea that it was a full moon until I got out here Friday. Oh well I would have come even if I did.

All day Saturday I saw nothing but a quick look at a doe and yearling (350 yards off). No pigs, no coons. I suppose it’s the full moon and tons of acorns. It’s been a long time since we had acorns like this. And it’s just odd that pig and deer sightings just disappeared on opening day. Nothing on the game cams all night, when for the last week I had bucks, does, and pigs on camera off and on all night.

Had a young 6 point chasing the heck out of a melanistic doe this morning. She walked over a pond dam and out of sight and he just stood and waited till she came back to the pond. The the chase was on, around and around the pond till she hightailed it out of sight, with him right on her tail.

Pretty similar here in Angelina county. I’ve seen one young doe all weekend and there hasn’t been many shots heard for an opening weekend. It’s the slowest opening weekend of rifle season I’ve had in a few years. I took vacation for this upcoming week and now I’m wondering if I should have waited a week. The forecast looks warm until at least Friday.
Last week I noticed the deer activity slowed at the feeders, but I still was getting a few deer pics at feeders day and night. This weekend, I haven’t gotten a single deer on camera at any of my feeders. I’ll be hunting a few game trails/funnels that I’ve had luck with in the past as a result of the acorns.

Not early at all!
I've hunted for years in northern Bexar county and have seen and killed bucks chasing does in full rut as early as Nov. 1.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.
