Like many of you I spend a bit of time reading interesting threads on various forums from across our great land. There is a thread on the "Hide" where a Vietnam era photo was posted and the actual soldier in that photo just happened to be a member of the Hide and identified himself in the photo. There have now been several years worth of back and forth stories and photos shared on that thread. Has to be considered the coolest forum thread ever... but this one is an easy 2nd. And hands down the best "knife" thread of all time. Thanks for sharing Geedubya.

Gent's

I've had fun with this thread.

Perhaps someone could start a "used knives" thread and show how they use their knives/knives in use.

Anywho, Today I turned 72 yrs. In keeping with this thread.......

I'm a malt guy, enjoy flavor and high ABV beers that are not too expensive. Porters, Dopplebocks, Dunkels & Stouts.

Do not know if there is a Total Wine in Lubbock or there abouts. If so you might google Total Wine a do a search for Porter Beers.

They list quite a few,

Enjoy!

Well much as i try to be a beer guy i always end up with whiskey. Recently acquired Ed Storch filleting knife. Ed is about my age (not old in our own minds but actually pretty close to it - 60ish) and is a 4th generation smith living in the hinterlands of Alberta.

[Linked Image]

Feel like there are lot of good custom skinning and dressing knives on the market but have had a hard time finding a fishing knife. Think this one is going to fit the bill. Will let you know as i will be ice fishing most weekends from now until mid April

And belated happy birthday! I am not the knife collector you are but there is something almost holy about well crafted steel. I haven't taken perhaps as many pics as i should have but your remark about used knives brought back memories. I have one particular knife that i have batoned through many many a bear sternum. Had to re-profile it once as in my youger years i tended to abuse my blades more than they deserved. But that too was actually a good thing as learning how to do that and bringing a "broken" blade back to life was quite enjoyable.

Good stuff guy!

That knife seems it could do double duty as a "boner" as well as a filet knife.

Classic blade shape, Geedub. I had to look up Steller's sea cow. That bone is said to be the most dense of all mammals. Bet it has some real heft.

Let's see,,,,,,,,,,,,

This guy has been terrorizing my pens/feeders for the last two seasons.

This is a South African Zebu Bull. It is not a Brahma. Two cows make up his harem. He is mean and feral. No brand. As such he is an exotic. Must have escaped from a game ranch.

[Linked Image]

Last pix until recently was the 15th of November, 2023.

He showed back up the middle of last month.

I decided I had had enough

So a plan was formed.

Here was a South African critter.

I've a S X S double rifle chambered for the 405 Winchester.

[Linked Image]

So I asked myself, WWTD (What would Teddy do?)

Quien Sabe,

[Linked Image]

I know what I did.

[Linked Image]

By now you may be wondering what this has to do with Beer or Knives.......

[Linked Image]

When I first started collecting knives I had to have a Puma White Hunter. IIRC I got this White Hunter some thity years ago. It is one of the good ones.

[Linked Image]

I recently have acquired two 'Marabu's" by South African maker Arno Bernard.

[Linked Image]

The one on the left has warthog tusk scales. The one on the right is Kudu bone.

[Linked Image]

I cut twelve +/-1 lb. steaks out of one backstrap for bacon wrapped filets. The other I cut into three portions for roasts or jerky.

At 72, I'll probably never make it to Africa, but I luv it when a plan comes together........

Especially with a Texas Twist!

Dang, Geedubya, well done! That big boy had some beef on him. There's someone else out there in our shared orbit with a double in .405. Trying to think. A couple of Real Ale Brewing Axis IPAs might dislodge the data ... cool
Long day today. Sweetwater to Fritzville to Comanche (Shiloh Cemetery) and then home. Grabbed a pork belly at HEB to try my hand at home made bacon.

Mighty fine, let us know how it turns out.

[Linked Image]

Hard to beat home made bacon if done correctly.

[Linked Image]

This pork belly was wet aged 7 days, turning once per 24hrs., then smoked with cherry and hickory.
