Tested positive for Covid two weeks ago. Got the full range of prescriptions, took them faithfully, but seemed to get worse. Went back to doc and they didn't like results and admitted her to hospital for a week of IV antibiotics. Cultured out as MRSA pneumonia. Let her come home last Thursday, with us, home health, and lots of other assistance. Today we took her back for checkup, they got all flustered and sent us back to hospital for X-rays and CAT/PET scans. Seems it has turned to necrotizing pneumonia, eaten a hole in her lung, and filled cavity with fluid. Surgery with cardio-thoracic surgeon tomorrow. Not looking good.

Hug your kids and grandkids every day, get back to kissing that spouse and saying I love you more often!!

That's sad news. My MIL lived with us for many years before she passed. At least she was home at the end. My wife is just now getting over it after more than 2 years. I'm hoping your MIL fully recovers and gets back home. Hang in there.

She's hanging in there, even tho we are asking a lot of her. On Eliquis blood thinner, so no chest surgery for a couple days. The surgeon thinks he will do more harm than good anyway, and might make the lung fall apart.

Pulled the PICT line out, and inserted a mid-line IV, switched antibiotics (again). Struck two drains into her chest to help with the fluids, but it is too thick to do much good. They are being brutally honest with her, and told her its 50/50 chance.

We do have a Living Will and DNR, so all those ugly bases are covered ahead of time, and there's no hard decision process.

Thanks everyone. The Forum has some of the best people in the world. We all go thru trials, and many much worse than ours. Strong beliefs, strong family ties, and tuff people handle a lot.

Sorry to hear of this. If the doctors and antibiotics can avoid her having sepsis...then she might well recover. Prayers for her and family.

Just lost the MIL about an hour ago. She went peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by family. If you have to go, quick and painless is the way to go!!!
