I think it's a Sitka deer, not whitetail.

My guess a young chocolate fallow buck. The Antlers look Fallow, the color is right for a chocolate and that adams apple says it as well

It’s a young fallow buck

And y’all made fun of the girl for shooting a Husky….

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I was literally about to type this exact thing LOL

First of all, it is absolutely 100% a young Fallow buck (chocolate color phase).

Second, there are no Sitka (aka Sitka Blacktail Deer) in Texas. I assume those of you who suggested that are referring to SIKA deer??

Third, maybe TPWD needs to start requiring some kind of wildlife identification test before y'all are allowed to buy a hunting license LOL

Everyone would have

People talking mad shyte about a girl shooting a husky in wolf country can’t even properly identify one of the most common exotics in Texas….

Ruined all the fun I was about to suggest chupacabra or wendigo since it seemed like a “wrong answers only” game there for a minute.

Makes me wonder how many show up to processors with a tag stuck to them each year.

Whatever, looks like an exotic, in TX aoudad sheep, axis deer, elk, sika deer, fallow deer, red deer, and blackbuck and nilgai antelope.
I spelled it wrong. Any good to eat? State considers them as bad as hogs?
Told her she should have shot it! Gal needs to learn to carry in the field. Guess she was walking to the tractor barn and saw it. Hubby googled and was wrong. I've never seen one so thanks for the correct ID.
fallow is often mistaken for sika and fallow coloring is often melanistic..sic google.

Interesting, actually SIL was in 4x4 with friends and it wasn't bothered by them. Still free meat if any good to eat.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

They aren't as good as Axis, but certainly nothing wrong with it (particularly a young one). I would tell her to smoke him if she sees him again! Like you said....free meat!

Wow, some of you all still think wolves and huskies look alike?

I have no clue what that deer species is so I wouldn't shoot it unless the LO told me it was ok. Might be his pet something or other.
Bet it's tasty though.
