Not really as far a velocity or the ability to shoot bullet weights over 150gr, the Savage has about 200fps velocity advantage if compared with the same bullet weight and barrel length. The HAM'R is more comparable to the old and proven .30-30 Win except it shoots much higher BC bullets at approximately the same velocity.

Well finally got to put it towards some larger pigs to see how it does. Really wanted to try some 110 vmax’s but haven’t had time to reload a batch, so I picked up some 130 hot cores from scheels in frisco and left for Childress. Seen this big boy for the last week and he was showing up 630-7 every day and he did it again. Didn’t have a great shot on him so I shoulder punched him to my surprise it blew through the shoulder plate and put him down in his tracks. 40 min later a group came in and I took the first larger one I saw. He went 279 and some change she was 175

I'd like to see the 279 boar, but these files must be huge, I can't open them using Starlink

Not sure why it’s giving me problems but I’ll get some up, I know it was hard to get him loaded up in the truck

TEST, a TX sunset

This was a 8mb photo I downsized to 151kb using the Photo and Picture Resizer app, this is the size file I normally post using the icon with the blue up arrow at the top of the quick reply. Works fine for me?

I finally have some comparison muzzle velocities to share. Both are AR's. One has an 18" barrel and the other (newer one) has an 11.3" barrel. I chrono'd the 18" barrel about 6 months ago and the 11.3" barrel today. Both were done in about 60 degree weather. Both barrels had over 150 rounds in them when tested. Ammo is factory from WC. Test results from 5 shot sets. Chrono is a Pro Chrono.

18" 150gr btsp 2261 fps with an es of 11 fps
11.3" 150gr btsp 2094 fps with an es of 44 fps ..... loss of 167 fps

18" 130gr hot core 2468 fps with an es of 21 fps
11.3" 130gr hot core 2258 fps with an es of 41 fps ...... loss of 210 fps

18" 125gr fmj 2409 fps with an es of 20 fps
11.3" 125gr fmj 2248 fps with an es of 37 fps ........ loss of 161 fps

Chronographs are moody. From day to day or week to week their results move around. So take my results as true but plus or minus 30-50 fps.

Your 130 hot core data is pretty close to mine.

16” - 2450
11.3” - 2320

not 279#'er but my son dropped a big boar (196#) this weekend with his 16" WC using 150 grain factory loads. Our biggest hog to date on our lease property south of Buffalo Springs, TX.

I'm a big fan of Nosler partition bullets and I was wondering if their 150 or 165 grain would work in the Ham'r. Nosler part numbers are 16329 and 16330.

I've used some of the 150gr and they shot/killed well, but the thick jacket of the base makes them get to max pressure well before most other 150gr bullets, I'd stay in the 2200fps range out of a 16" barrel. The 165gr is a NO GO due to the amount of powder capacity it takes up.

HAM'R fans are about to have another bullet choice developed specifically for the cartridge. It's the first of a new Lehigh Defense product line called the eXpander. It's a 115gr designed for deep penetration and 100% weight retention. Bullets were shot into a 215# boar on the shoulder from 50yds at a 2529fps MV and recovered under the skin on the far side. Accuracy has been very impressive out of the two 1-15 twist barrels I've used for load development. No pressure data yet, but I'm pretty confident this bullet can be safely pushed to 2585fps from a 16" barrel. Price should be about the same as the current 115gr Blackout bullet already in the product line.

NOTE: The solid base on the left is from the 110gr Controlled Chaos that killed the boar

Dead boar was the first kill last night with this new bullet. [Linked Image]

That eXpander 115 looks awesome! I know fracturing coppers will get the job done for the most part.. But I've always been a believer of weight retention and penetration.

Do you have any idea of when it will be available? I assume you'd want to get more testing/pressure testing done..

It's October and still no 30303's frown

With that kind of accuracy you could probably get away with a fast spit ball to knock the hogs down.

I am considering switching to the "blue" team and have a question for those who use Dillon XL750 (or 650) with 300ham'r.

Which components are required for caliber conversion from 223?

According to https://dilloncdn.com/magento/charts/xl750-conversion-chart.pdf for 300blk we need flaring powder funnel (C #13564) or non flaring (AK #13015) and case feed adapter (Modified Blue #15186).

Do we need different parts for 300ham'r?

Also, if you use XL750 for both 300blk and 300hamr:
1. Which powder funnel is better, flare or no flare?
2. Do we really need to change 223 case feed adapter? Some sources omit that requirement.

I have my 750 set-up with a 7.62x39 powder funnel and HAM'R dies, everything else is .223, works fine

The 110gr Hornady V-MAX, 125gr Speer TNT, 130gr HAM'R HOT-CORE, 135gr Sierra HP-V and 135gr Hornady FTX have all proven to cleanly kill hogs and shoot as well or better than the 150gr Hornady #30303

If in doubt go with the 130gr HAM'R HOT-CORE, it's accuracy and terminal performance has been proven over and over. We have quite a few in stock and a LOT coming in Oct..

Bill,

That bullet reminds me of the Barnes. I am glad to have a comparable bullet that retains the full mass.

I know its brand new bullet, but maybe sometime in the future you can get a young steady hand to go kill an afternoon doing “testing”. Perhaps a shoot-off between some of the popular bullets, such as 110gr VMax, Controlled Chaos, 125gr TNT, 125gr ProHunter. Interested in seeing if there is a noticeable difference.

Thanks

Young man, If I were you I would not be challenging BILL WILSON to a hog killing match. IMHO you will lose every time. Young eyes and steady hands account for a lot but decades of experience make up for a LOT.

A little goofing off this weekend as we finished rescuing a 1977 CJ5 abandoned on our lease. once we got her running we had to add a theme ... considering the 300 Ham'r is our go-to platform well you know what we had to do ! Ham'r Time !
