I love hunting with the Singe Action Rugers, my new favorite is the Single Seven that will handle everything from the .32 Shorts to the .327 Fed Mag ammo.
Adios,
Gary

I have used Super Blackhawks in 44 with 250 gr home cast for decades. A couple years back, I purchased a Magnum Research revolver in .475 Linebaugh. I cast a 393 gr slug and run it about 1050 fps. It puts hogs and deer straight down. The Linebaugh dwarfs the 44 mag both in size and in performance. I keep the H110/win 296 loads put away and just sling lead with HS-6. Have yet to find a hog or deer that the slug bounced off of. Never recovered a slug. The cheap Ultra dot line is the only dot type sights that Ive found that'll stand up to the full power load recoil. The rest just lay over after a few shots.

Ruger makes a 4 5/8, and a 6 1/2. When I said I was hunting with a 5" blackhawk, it's just because I was being too lazy to type 4 5/8, so I rounded. Yes, the longer sight radius would be nice, but a 4 5/8 barreled blackhawk should be fine out to 40 yards.

You are playing a different game than we are.

Nah. I’ve hunted with everything from 22 pistols to 45-70 Contender. I settled on the 460XVR as a hood all around hunting pistol. My varmint load is 200gr moving around 2300

I've hunted with cast handgun loads for a LONG time. I'm curious about the speed you run. Is it for the flatter trajectory or do you think it does more damage? Wide meplats do disrupt, but not like a rifle. In my experience, anything more powerful than a pass through is wasted powder. I've never noticed any rifle type hydrostatic shock in anything from .357 to .500 linebaugh. Not knocking you in any way. Just curious. My 393gr .476 slug will go through hogs lengthwise and not stop at 1000ish. Plus I dont have to dig the front sight post out of my forehead.

I'm a single action junky. Recoil is totally different out of a double framed gun as you know.
