I posted this questin a few days ago hoping for some input but i think it got burried in the varmint bullet discussion so i am posting again.
Looking for some info on the 125sst. I know that the tip has to be removed, which i am fine with. I am curious about general accuracy, expected velocity (16" barrel), load data (CFEBLK & cci 450 primers), and terminal performance on whitetail/medium pigs (can I expect good expansion and a pass through on a broadside shot). Also, will the cannilure be hidden or exposed? I know Bill posted limited info here before but i don't recall any loading data for it. Any experience with this bullet is appreciated.

I've shot several 125gr SST, BT and ABs with the tip removed on a belt sander so the ogive will be close enough to the throat for decent accuracy and the bullets don't use up so much powder capacity. All 3 shot fine and I successfully killed a couple hogs with the SST. However with this said, it's almost more trouble than it's worth since we have so many good bullet choices available now that don't need any modification to work well.

Well I'm pretty stubborn and am committed to trying them, haha. Would load data for the 125 tnt (other than OAL) be a good starting point?

OK, I've been staying out of all this varmint bullet for larger game discussion, but I've got to put my $ .02 worth in....
#1 Cleanly killing any game animal, but ESPECIALLY larger hogs it's all about shot placement. You take out the spine or brain and the animal is DRT period!!! Place the shot on the shoulder of a broadside animal with a caliber/bullet that will penetrate into the vitals and you will kill the animal, you will probably just have to go find it. I try to take my plan A/B shot (hog quartering to me and shoot into the center of the neck) whenever possible on hogs, especially larger ones. This shot takes out the spine most of the time (especially if a low weight retention bullet is used) and if I miss the spine the bullet goes into the lungs.
#2 Is bullet selection for the desired outcome assuming the caliber used is even remotely adequate for the game. For shots in the neck of a hog pretty much any bullet suitable for the HAM'R (including varmint bullets) will reliably kill hogs no matter how big they are. However, if you want to be able to shoot a big boar on the shoulder and into the lungs you will need a bullet that will reliably penetrate through the shield and deep into the body cavity.
#3 Bottom line, if you shoot a hog in the neck where you should, varmint bullets work just fine! Here’s another bigger boar shot through the shield with a .300HAMR spitting 110vmax. 2600~fps impact velocity at 80yds from muzzle. I neck shot this hog and my hunter hit it in the shoulder area with my HAMR His shot Impacted high in the shield (cut to give an idea of how thick it was after peeling the shoulder off whole to find the wound entering the near side chest wall) Copper jacket started showing signs of fragmentation leaving specks of copper as it penetrated the near side ribs breaking one and entering the thoracic cavity largely intact. Inside the bullet clipped a major section of plumbing filling the cavity with copious amounts of dark red blood, very little (none that I could find) of which made it outside of the thoracic cavity. Approximately 3” inside the thoracic cavity the projectile jacket was found largely intact. The lead core ended up taking a JFK-esq abrupt left turn. I finger traced the core’s path punching through the diaphragm and into the abdomen rupturing at least the stomach. I could smell the gut when I peeled the shoulder back prior to opening the rib cage up and once I confirmed the hole the exploratory efforts were abandoned. I cannot speak to absolute reliability to perform in a clinical sense but I can say that I’ve easily shot a dozen 200-250#+ hogs through the shield with HAMR/vmax producing similar terminal results.

Picked up a WC Tactical Hunter last year as I was interested in a lighter AR-15 with pig and deer hunting applications. I've shot the 110gr Vmax, 110gr Lehigh CC, 125gr TNT, and the 130gr HotCor out of the 1:15 twist 18 inch barrel. My best groups so far have been the 1. Vmax, 2. Lehigh CC, and 3. TNTS; all going sub-MOA at 100 yards. The HotCor was just outside MOA. However, my buddy shot my rifle right after me and his results were the exact opposite of mine with the HotCor going sub-MOA and Vmax, Lehigh CC, and TNT being outside MOA. Still can't figure that out but has to be a difference in the shooter.
I have shot 7 deer last year (I get a lot of management tags) and all have been one shot DRTs. I have used both the 110gr Vmax and Lehigh Defense CC and they both have performed flawlessly from 50 yards out to 200 yards. Both are very dramatic, but I have not seen any round out of a deer rifle as wickedly devastating as the Lehigh CC. I shot a doe around a 100 yards shooting a face-on chest shot from a hilltop and the exit wound was the size of a softball out of the bottom of the chest cavity with dime/nickel sized exit wounds around it. Also, a bullet fragment completely severed off a rear hoof. I've shot many animals with about everything from a .243 to a 300 RUM to a 45-70 and have never seen a larger exit than what was achieved using the 110gr Lehigh CCs. Didn't get on a deer with the 130gr HotCors or the 125gr TNTs, but I'm sure either one of those would get the job done according to some of the post I've read.
I recently ordered some of the new 125gr Lehigh CC rounds and wanted to know if anyone has any hunting experience with them and if they as good or better than the 110gr Lehigh CCs? Do they shoot as tight of groups as the 110gr.?

Just wanted to say that this thread in its entirety got me to go out and build a 300hamr. And sold me on Wilson overall. And that was back when this thread was 95 pages. Thanks for the knowledge drop.

Welcome to the group. Even though I got into the 300 HAM'R before this thread even started it has really helped me. I don't have hogs and our deer season isn't that long. I can test accuracy on various loads all day long, but I have to depend on you guys for the terminal results with the various bullets. It is a little funny, the only people that have ever said anything negative about the HAM'R are those that have never tried it. But then again, ignorance is bliss.

I just loaded a test run of the 125cc. Went to max charge off WC load data and was shooting 1/2 MOA out of a 16" barrel. Expecting great things when I do shoot a hog with them based on 110 experiences.

In memory of the 300Ham’r ghost that is DJones I was close. The first 5 shots all found hogs Fwiw, every projectile fired was a vmax and every hit was a pass through.

I remember when I desired a hunting property that would allow for some long shots.... Now, I want it so that I can justify getting an E-Bike for night hunting! One more thing I didn't know that I Needed!

One more thing I didn't know that I Needed! It’s probably not for everyone but I have been stacking them pretty hard the last couple months while using it. The drought has changed a lot about my productivity. Hogs are repeatedly destroying troughs in a couple remote pastures. putting a cell cam on them and then racing out on that e beast to kill them is paying dividends. It crosses ground Significantly tougher country that will eat a golf cart or BadBoy buggy and it does it in a stealth mode they can’t match. When I have both primary troughs hit It is a 12 mile trip. I’ve never done more than 20 a night and I’ve only had her below 50% charge 1 time. This a fairly regular load out. Long gun in a biathlon sling on my back AR on the gun rack Primos trigger stick on the gun rack Helmet mounted thermal bridge with an IrayUSA RH25 and pvs-14

Have you looked at one of those slip on auxiliary silencers that go over your current muffler? This one is a Talaria Sting. It's a straight up mule for this sort of work.

I apologize if this might be slightly off topic but I was wondering how everyone carries their Ham'r rifles. I normally drive a Polaris Ranger which has an open pouch below the dash and stick the muzzle end in that and rest the butt on the middle seat. Since I don't do any radical driving this normally works well as long as I only have one passenger but when a third person is in the middle seat it's awkward and makes rapid deployment impossible. Suggestions?

How does the 300 Hamr compare to the 300 Savage cartridge that was developed in 1920?
