The rifle, with customized parts and accessories from Canada, New Zealand, Arkansas, South Dakota and elsewhere, was assembled in Idaho by S&S Sporting in Driggs, Idaho. Rifle is chambered in .416 Barrett Chassis is a Cadex Dual Strike from Canada Barrel is an LRI from Sturgis, SD – 40” with a 1:9 twist. These folks are amazing in every way. The barrel was “structured” by tacomHQ in Arkansas. Action is a McMillian TAC50. Trigger is a Timney. Muzzle brake is a Terminator T6 from New Zealand. The 350 MOA mount was custom built by S&S Sporting in Idaho. The custom high-rise cheek piece was built by S&S Sporting. The scope is the recently-released Vortex Razor 6-35×56 FFP scope with EBR-7D MOA reticle. This scope is the latest and greatest from Vortex Optics. After testing many other top-tier brands, Scott decided that this Razor was our best option. The scope was held in place with a double set of Leupold Mark IV rings. Support optics included a Delta and a Charlie TARAC from tacomHQ. The bipod was a LRA. Scott designed and built the shooting platform. Ballistic software used – Applied Ballistics. LinkVideo shows it took the bullet roughly 24 seconds to reach its target. Link

68 attempts before one hit.
Most of the rifle world is throwing poop on this like monkeys. Of course it is Dan posting it, like it's some great thing.
We need some standards, like 5 attempts or its not a record.

It’s obvious these guys are not ashamed of the number of shots needed to break their own record. Who knows, perhaps they were expecting a far more difficult challenge. But then, unlike these guys, I’m not one who has the knowledge, much less the resources to make such a call.

We need some standards, like 5 attempts or its not a record. Couldn’t agree moor. I mean at some point I could load up enough ammo in my open sights SKS and I'd eventually hit something way out there. That doesn't make it a record. I agree on a shot limit. To me even 5 shots is excessive. If you say you can do it, it should be on the 2nd or 3rd shot. I'll give you one shot for wind, another in case you were wrong, and after being wrong 3 times, you didn't break the record today. Go work some more and try again. If you were shooting at an actual target, they'd be long gone after the first 2 rounds missed. Or give them 10 rounds but they have to hit it 3 times (or 2 out of 5) or something like that. 68 shots before a hit is stupid.

Is it really? Pick a spot that's roughly 4-1/2 miles from your home and then image being able to hit an 80-inch target at that distance with ANY number of shots.

My farthest hits are 2180 yards (1.25 miles) We did not have a laser that could reach it. I milled it, did the math, and came up with a distance. So technically we were dealing with an unknown distance to start with. Shot #1 low, elevation up, shot #2 low, elevation up. Shot #3 impact, then hit it two more times. 68 attempts is excessive, period!

4 1/2 miles eh? Has anybody else tried this distance? Was the FAA notified of the flight? I'm wondering if 68 tries is the best anyone has done. The bullet must go 1000 feet above the target in its flight. Wind that high is often not the wind at the ground. I am not willing to criticize the guy until others start doing it in fewer rounds. I am impressed.

Is it really? Pick a spot that's roughly 4-1/2 miles from your home and then image being able to hit a target at that distance with ANY number of shots. Mathematically, yes if the bullet will consistently travel that far, and you shoot enough rounds, you'll eventually hit it. Basic statistics and probability. If this was a real target (military target, or hunting target, for example), you don't think the target would have been long gone after you peppered the area 67 times? If so, then what's the point in calling it a successful engagement and a world record? I just don't get it. Gotta give them a few bonus points just for doing it with a Vortex.
Don't forget the double Leupold rings. I don't hate Vortex as much as some. Their high end stuff is good quality, usually built at LOW along with other well-renowned scopes like the Bushnell LRHS I believe and maybe the ERS, the SWFA HD 5-20, etc. My Delta Stryker is made there too and I've had zero issues with it. Fantastic optically.

I am impressed. The 350 MOA scope base sure got my attention. I may have missed it, but there was no mention of how far each shot missed the target. The margin of error at that distance would have to be substantial and perhaps even mind blowing.

I guess it open for someone out there to try and break it; with proper witnesses, video, and documentation. Billy Bob Johnson once told me he shot a deer at 1200 yards with a 45-70, one shot, said his drunk friends would back him up. I say go for it.

I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while! Which probably points to why the shooter asked that his name be kept private to avoid unnecessary distractions from scoffers.

My farthest hits are 2180 yards (1.25 miles). Or less than a third the distance of this new World Record. Yes, I'm sure it wasn't the long distance shots this team can easily make that drove them but one that offered a far greater challenge. Keep in mind that back 2020, they guided a client to set the Wyoming state record for longest hit on a target at 3.06 miles. I wonder what they might charge for a hunt and give someone an opportunity to pick their brain for a day.

All I want to know is who's going to do it now in 67 or less shots. 68 is apparently the benchmark, looks like it's a world record within easy grasp for someone

Some folks here are poo pooing they're accomplishment by denigrating them for taking 68 shots before they hit the target. Something tells me that if they were to do it again today it would take them a whole lot less than 68 shots to make a hit.
What really intrigued me was the bullet that they used. It uses really high-end aerodynamic theory and it's not a conventional bullet design. The flight time of just under 30 seconds was pretty impressive as well considering from their stated muzzle velocity the bullet at some point was probably 2,700 to 3,000 ft above the ground at its apogee. It was more like they were calling in artillery from a really weak gun then shooting a rifle.

My take is every shot at that range is a guess. So much at play between the strike of the firing pin and the target that changes it all. If it were so easy it would be beat tomorrow. I could t do it and have no interest I. It what so ever to invest the time or means to attempt it. It’s not useful or practical to me. That said they did it, kudos to them.

After 68 shots I would have to say they were just tossing shots out there and wishing. Now could they duplicate the hit in the next five shots? The again, why? Any living target (two or four legged) might get the idea they should move long before the 68th shot.
