Almost all of my deer/hog/big game scopes are 3-9x40s, I keep them set in the 6-7x range and seem to always have time to turn up to 9x for long shots.

Another fan of the Leupold 6x42.
When using a variable I found I commonly use the lowest magnification.
I don’t hunt long range

I’m sure it’s location dependent. There are some places where it is rare to shoot over 75 yards. I have shot a pig at 10 yards and have took shots at them at 500 yards at my place. I would hate a fixed power scope. I like 4-6 power when walking or driving around so I can find something quickly but if time allows I almost always crank it up to 9,10, or even 15 depending on which scope I am using. I have a couple scopes that go over 15 and I haven’t found much use for that much power when hunting.

I hunt on lowest mag and adjust up as needed. I'm very familiar with my scopes so adjustment is second nature and takes nearly zero time.

3-15X is one of the best magnification ranges there ever has been

10 feet to 1000 yards, it will do it all.

That's what I like. So much so I have two identical.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.
