interesting, I've done gardens my whole life but never cared about lawns. Shakes fists at armadillos then screams at clouds...

It's good to do every now and then to let you know where you stand and give you a good idea what fertilizer to use. I've tested mine the last two years. I'll skip this year and probably the next as I have 2yrs worth of products on hand and won't be changing my program. I like to get my test done in late February to early March before any products get applied.

Wow I woke up to a forest of mushrooms this morning. I had a bunch of problems with my irrigation system this summer and the side of lawn that is in direct sunlight completely died off during the heatwave. I got my sprinklers fixed finally and was watering like crazy. It is almost fully green again, but for some reason we've started having a bunch of mushrooms pop up all over the place. But only on the side that died and in random places. Now this morning I come out of the house and there was probably 12 mushrooms across my yard.

Help a brother out Derek, what is causing this?

Moisture and nutrients. It's a good thing.

Gotcha, I figured it was not a bad thing since everything was dead and is now growing. Just didn't see any in any of the neighbors yard's.

Mine has lots of mushrooms also. My lawn looks as thick and green as it has since sod was laid in fall of 2017. Amazing how fast it will recover with a little rain and cooler temps.

Not to be the debbie downer on the shrooms in the yard Kyle. For the most part it's not much to worry about. But it could be a sign of fairy ring. I wouldn't get overly worried about it as mentioned. I would get some Disease EX down now and propiconazole 14-21 days later. That's not even close to the best FR treatment as it takes high dollar fungicides to treat well, but it's on the label and will do an ok job and the Prop will give you a bit of growth regulation. I would aerate and remove as much of that thatch layer as possible and introduce more O into the soil. I want OM in my lawn but not to the point I'm growing shrooms.

Thanks for that. Dumbs it down a little for me LOL.

Derek from the video thats not what is happening in my yard. If anything they grow in a strait line on the well beaten down path that we take through the yard from the driveway. I'm guessing since there is a lot of smashed dead organic material in that path that is why they grow there. There was also a three on that side of the lawn that was cut down and stump ground out before the sod was laid. However I think them missed some of the roots because I've had to level long "streaks" of my yard because there is a dip where the root used to be growing. I think it has a lot of dead organic material under that entire side of the yard.

In the back yard I have had lots of mushrooms popup about where they had to quit grinding roots due to the fence and a building. Where those roots were left has become mushroom central in the yard. I know there is rotting roots not far underground right there. This is about 3.5 years after the tree removal.

Yea we bought the house in '16 and the tree was removed right before.

Yeah that's normal. Level the dips out with sand and you're good.

Disease pressure is skyrocketing with the recent rains, morning dew and increase humidity.

This may not be the place for this, but I feel like it comes closer to being lawn related than anything else. What's suggested to rid the yard of ant beds? I've had quite a few start popping up recently.

Put this on this very active bed that showed up overnight about 3 hours ago, now stir it around and no active ants were seen. Bought it at a local yard and garden supply.

Surrender and Orthene are the same thing. Acephate is the AI. Surrender has a higher amount of active ingredient. Both work great.

Worst thing I will say about Surrender is do not store it where the smell is not appreciated. It does work well on ants.

Great. Thanks for the suggestion guys.

I have another grass/lawn/weed question.

As previously mentioned, I have the main part of my backyard and as Derek informed earlier, I have Bermuda grass here. I also have a portion of the yard that had previously been sectioned off from the rest of the yard. This part has been neglected and needs some definite work. It's coming back and greening up well, only issue is there are a LOT of weeds.

[Linked Image]

I know it all needs to be cut, the rain has made it take off, and had to buy a replacement mower. Anyways, i'm assuming this is a weed mixed with another type of grass? I'm looking for an ID on the weed, and suggestions on getting rid of it before it spreads even more. Also, should I pick one grass over the other and start doing something to get rid of one and keep the other growing?

That looks like Dallis. Not sure what the broadleaf weed is. When you have a mess like that I would hammer it with a 3 way like Spectricide orange label. About the only thing left will be the Dallis. Spot spray it with Roundup. It's tough to tell but it looks like their might be some Bermuda mix in. I would hammer it with fertilizer, wait a week, hammer it with w 3 way, wait a week or two and spot treat with roundup. Need to do a pre emergent now. If it is bermuda in there the 3 way will ding it but it will recover. The reason you fert heavy first is healthy turf will recover faster. I wouldn't be real concerned what turf is in there right now. Get the weeds under control and take it from there.

Derek what’s the best liquid fall pre emergent? I finally broke down and bought a nice spray rig to go to all liquid chemicals so I need to round up some goodies.
