Coming along and looking good. That 650 DP on that small 302 may be tricky to tune. I’d lean more towards something in the 500-580 range. The carb came with the car and had never been installed like a lot of the parts. The engine I found out after trying to time it using 289-302 timing order is actually a 302 HO. It has a 351 Windsor camshaft, so it uses the 351-timing order. So, we shall see how it works out. I got the timing worked out but still need to fine tune it. Have started it and run it for a couple of minutes each time. Do not have cooling system all hooked up yet so have not run it for an extended time. The car was originally bought from a person that lives in Arizona. The buyer then seems to have bought a lot of new parts but never actually installed them or changed the title. He then died and it was sold to another individual. He also bought new parts and installed some but not all before also dying and not putting the title in his name. It was then sold to the person I got it from. He also bought a few parts and then realized it was too much a project for him. He also never got the title in is name. So for over 20 years the car has been worked on but never been titled or been on the road. I have added up over $10,000 in new parts at the old prices from receipts I got with the car. I have got in touch with the original owner of the car. I have the original title, but the first person that bought it signed the back. I have sent the paperwork to the person in Arizona to sigh and get notarized for me to get the title in my name. He says he will, but we shall see. Otherwise I will have to go the bonded title route. Been interesting to say the least. I had the same problem with the truck I just finished. It all worked out in the end. Working with the local taxing office is interesting. Kind of like when you go there or what day it is or who you talk too is how things go.

What a great find with a lot of unusual circumstances involved. Do keep us posted on the progress you make.
Do you still have the Ford truck you rebuilt?

Do you still have the Ford truck you rebuilt? Yes, still have it. Have put over 700 miles on it so far. Drives really good. Has plenty of power, handles very good on the road and best of all it starts every time.

I sold the 650 Holley DP and got a 600 Holley Brawler. It could not handle the 650 DP. Starts easy now but I still don't have the belt on the front. They had installed a serpentine belt instead of the original V belt. I am changing out the alternator for a single wire one. The wiring is a mess and I am going to have to probably put in a new harness. I had the belt on for a few minutes. The power steering is a mees with a lot of leaks. I am doing away with it and going to manual steering. Took out the windshield and back window. Will need them out to install new headliner and be better to have them out to paint eventually. Spending some money on it but from what I see advertised they bring from $30 to $35K. So I have a long way to go before I have that much in it. Got the signed and notarized paperwork back from the original owner in Arizona so Monday we shall see how it goes for the title transfer.

Finally got the title mess straightened out. Should get the title in my name sent to me in a couple of weeks. What a goat rope that has been. It was amazing to have been able to find the original owner that lives in Arizona and has moved to a different city. Then to be able to get him to take some paperwork to get signed and notarized and sent back to me. Still some very good people in the world.

Got the title in my name. Motor runs well. Got the hydraulic clutch working. Have the rear end jacked up and ran the transmission through all the gears. Brakes seem to be good. Had to bleed them again. There is an electric fuel pump and a mechanical one. Why I did not know. I removed the electrical one. The mechanical would not pump. Took it out and it would not pump on the bench. Was kind of strange that when I removed it there was no resistance when I unbolted it. Took a mirror and looked in the hole. There was no eccentric to make the lever move. It had been a fuel injected engine when new. Somewhere along the line someone removed the FE and put a carb in its place. They then put a mechanical fuel pump. A FE engine has a oil slinger on the timing gear instead of an eccentric and it broke the oil slinger. They should have removed the oil slinger and installed a 2 piece eccentric. No wonder three individuals have owned it for over 20 years and never had it on the road.

Good on you Don!
Been watching "Powerblock" on YouTube a bit the last week. The engine building guys specifically. I have learned a ton more by paying attention and listening to them. They have got me convinced that to know for sure all the ins and outs of an old engine is to just pull it, put it on the stand, and tear it down. See what you see, and go from there.
Lots of wannabe mechanics out there, and you are not one of them. Kudos to you for saving this piece of Americana.

Very awesome! Love seeing old cars/trucks come back to life. Really wish I had the money to do one with my son and give it to him on his 16th birthday. Depending on how it turns out I might keep it and give him my vehicle . Prices have just gotten out of hand on these cars. Once you replace and upgrade everything I’d probably be way over good used vehicle prices.

I miss my ‘67 Bronco. It had a fiberglass top that broke apart one day. I put a $1500 soft top on and it was stolen a few weeks later so I put a piece of Diamond plate aluminum over the front seats and rolled it that way.
