This is the most ridiculous post I have ever seen. Its Dove season when those fast moving bast@#ds are moving in you cant tell if it is a Racing Pigeon or a Dove. I am sure as hell not going to take the time to ask the bird if it is a Racing Pigeon. Seems like you Pigeon Racers are as bad as PETA......I will be sure and spell out PETA in Racing Pigeons when I am done this weekend.

I broke under pressure. I dropped 12 mourning dove and 1 pigeon. I did give it some serious thought, however, before pulling the trigger. The temptation was just too great!

If it flies it dies?? How about If its brown its down??
Why because I can and its good work for the dogs. How about your dog running past my deer blind and I shoot it? Why because I can and its good target practice.
Grow up and have a little respect for others. Texas Sage made a valid request and you come back with a typical backwoods redneck response. If you cannot tell the differnce between a dove and a pigeon stay home.

I think all the racing pigeons should be required to wear a orange vest and cap.

Texas Sage, I will promise not to shoot any of those pigeons out dove hunting. If I am out dove hunting then, that is what I will shoot, DOVE. If your pigeons fly past me they will be safe.

Welcome to The Forum. I also raise pigeons, not to race but to eat. I expect to lose birds during dove season. Maybe it would be a good idea if you and all the rest of the fanciers of racing pigeons, changed your ways of doing things so that your birds aren't out during the open dove season. Also keep in mind that pigeons, Rock Doves, are considered pests and can be shot at any time.
I feel for you and all of the other folks that put so much effort into raising your birds, but I also feel that you all could help the situation by ammending your ways of doing things. JMO.

Yeah, training these rat with wings this time of year is not the best idea.

There is nothing wrong with this post. TexasHeat and Jager, you are A-holes. The man has made a simple request. Your response to this post is the reason most hunters get the redheck label... If it flies it dies!!!!.. Come on..... Show the man a little respect. Shoot anything that moves or flies? Great, you will set this sport back about 30 years. People like you are the reason I am constantly justifying hunting to everyone at work. What about when your dog enters my property? Should I go ahead and shoot it? Maybe the liberals do have a point about the mentality of most hunters.

This one is beginning to get way out to the left or somewhere. Texas Sage got on here and merely made a request. We don't have to agree or disagree with it, and stating an opinion is one thing, getting snotty and starting to name call is another. The folks raising pigeons in Texas know when opening and closing days of dove season are, if they choose to fly their birds during that time, than they should expect to lose some birds. The only people that can change that is the pigeon breeders, by adjusting their schedules for 60 days. As for some of the other comments, if there is a single one of you out there, that can not tell the difference between a dove in the air and a pigeon in the air, you probably don't need to be hunting. That is like saying you can't tell the difference between a green wing teal and a mallard. Unless I am hunting on or very near my property, if I see a pigeon, eurasian collared dove, white wing dove, you get the picture, I am going to send some lead its way.

I'm no pigeon expert, but it kinda sounds like letting your dog(s) run loose near the freeway during rush hour. Bad things can only happen in that situation. However, identification is easy as crazy horse states.

Good post CHC & Cliff, I'll do same for practice/food. If I know it's someone's racing pigeon, of course I wouldn't take it. Otherwise, fair game year round.

Looks to me like they could put some temporary die or paint on the birds if they're so worried about them getting shot. CHC is right, training them during dove season and then gripeing about them getting shot at is absurd. DUH! just change the event schedules!
Hunting is more to me than Antlers on the wall. It's more about the memories you make, and sharing those memories with friends, and family.

Well shucks.. I was thinking of training my dogs to act like reindeer. I was going to put antlers on them and everything. I was going to start training them on the first saturday in November. Maybe I should rethink this.
Picture removed. clowns creep me out.

No wonder all those birds kept flying the same route a few years ago...LOL...We took out about 9 one day, of course one had a band on its leg and I kept it to add to my duck and geese bands.....then felt bad when I saw a pigeon coop on the way out at a house. Though we shoot a lot of the bad pigeons now.....cause the farmers want us to.

What a crazy request.....Will all due respect to the soft people on this forum, if a pigeon flies by me it dies. End of story. I don't care if he is wearing a little NASCAR uniform sponsored by ACME birdseed... I don't care if they've "raced" them for years on Labor day, it seems totally irresponsible to continue on with the practice of releasing/racing them when dove season is open knowing they are a targeted specie. That's kinda like my buddy letting his daughter's pet goldfish swim with his oscars just because the goldfish occupied the tank before he bought the Oscar.

Another person ousted before their in!!! A simple request turns into I'll kill anything I darn well please. I think the reason some of you shoot pigeons is because you can't hit the dove . Some of ya'll have basically said if your pigeons come by me I'm going to shoot at them no matter what, that's absurd. Shooting pigeons while dove hunting or any other time is totally different from what some of you are saying. I kind of have the same thoughts as some on if I'm deer hunting and your dog comes by my stand you want me to have the same mentallity as you. A simple request gone bad, what a shame.
