Stepping on a 6’ rattlesnake in a briar patch will give you a jolt of adrenaline.

I almost stepped on this one 2 years ago at my lease. He was in 4' from me before he rattled and came out of thick grass.

I drive a manual and always leave it in gear and use the parking break. One time, we forgot something at the house when we were heading out of town. Pulled in the driveway, which is on a slight hill, to run inside. Didn’t pull the parking break and didn’t leave it in gear because I left the truck running. Halfway out the door and my wife is starting to say something as I realized the truck was rolling backwards. Almost a disaster! Would’ve rolled across the street into my neighbor’s house, probably.

Another

One cold January morning I went out to the cabin property to start the 1969 IH tractor to charge the battery. It had been 2-1/2 months since I was out there last and with temps in the high 20's I fully expected a struggle to get the diesel engine going. Standing on the ground I activated the glow plugs and pushed the start button. The engine didn't make a half revolution when she fired. That's when I discovered I had left it in gear and the neutral safety switch was bypassed. Tractor leaps forward hits a pole that was part of the overhead crane and the rear tires starts digging a hole. In the mean time my foot went beneath the rear tire and it nearly pulled me under it. Fortunately my shoe came off and I was able to get clear of it.

Elk bugling, bass hitting a top water lure, talking to grandsons, getting the coyote to come to the call, desert smell after a nice rain, watching dogs work birds, calling a turkey, good cup of coffee around morning campfire with friends.

Roar of several thousand snow geese in your face, bearing down on your spread with wings locked up. You know it is about to get ugly, and I am smiling the whole time.

After sitting in a deer blind since way before daylight and looking up above the window sits a large yellow jacket nest with what looks like a hundred of those critters looking right at you.
Will get your heart going.

Many. Bottom of the ninth, down one, two outs, two strikes, runners at first and second and a ball is hit deep in the gap....

first elk hunt i ever went on, Archery hunt on the Western Slope in Colorado.

Bull ripped off a bugle probably 50 yards from me. I swear to you that sound cut right thru me. I never could get the elk to come in with a cow call either.

Gotta go with those cold (but not below freezing) fall/early winter mornings, after a front has gone through, when the sky is clear blue, without a cloud in the sky, and you can look out across into Mexico and see the mountains standing out.

Playing guitar and singing songs with my parents of 90 years.
I know what is coming. They are on hospice, but we do the best we can. I treasure my time with them.

A largemouth bass on the end of my line!

Shooting my pistols!

Being at a guitar jam or an open mic with friends, guitar in hand, ready to take the stage and hope for the best!

Mountain biking in the woods, smelling the trees and river and hoping I don't crash...again!

Being on an airplane going "somewhere, anywhere"!

Being in a car heading out for a weekend road trip!

I'll have an expanded list in a few years. I dread the day, but I know once my parents go to a "higher place," my life will change drastically. Blessings to our seniors!

...+++

Going deep into a cave with a Texas Park Ranger and have a mountain lion start growling at both of you and you have no weapons.

Accidentally touching hot primary on a distribution electric line, in an insulated bucket it pops you pretty hard. If not, I would be dead or missing body parts.

Walking a trail through a pear flat in sotex to a deer blind at 5am and walk into a pack of about 30 javelina that are bedded down. The snapping teeth and action that ensued including shooting the tip of my boot off was uplifting to say the least....
