You're probably never going to get a consensus! My favorite happens to be the Speer Hot-Cor 130 grainer, #2007.

Man, none of the bullets are magic and any of the WC recommended bullets will kill a hog just as dead as the others.

None of the bullets is likely to impress you if you hit the hog in a non vital area.

I’ve only used 5 different roundS to hunt hogs with but, of those 5 I really like the 150gr SST.

I don't understand why you would need a 150 grain bullet on hogs. 110 gr. V-Max is my go to round with my 16 inch Protector. I agree with another member that said the V-Max is an underestimated round. DNS knocks them down all day usually shooting a 90 to 120 grain round albeit with his Grendel.

i wish i had been sitting on the front row. i could have been killed shooting 125gr tnt flame

they all kill, i think bullet selection depends on if you want pass throughs or not, ricochets or not, mushroom, weight retention etc ad nauseum. do you shoot a few hundred a year or a few thousand and what will your budget support. do you need moa or minute of hog. and least we not forget... what's available??!!

almost 4got. pic for attn

As usual, DJones nailed it in the head, and almost as well as I did this lass🤣
As a note, this was the second hog that had a completely empty cranial cavity recently.

I’m shooting a lot of vmax now and I’m more than happy with the terminal performance from 11.3”~16” Hamr on hogs of any size. I began shooting them because they were what was available first and foremost. The fact that they don’t have a rainbow trajectory is also a plus. I’ve got 4k 125tnt squirrelled away that will get stuffed next unless some 110gr pop up at a reasonable price [not likely]

Which of these might be the best for home defense and hogs. Thanks!

If over-penetration is a concern I'd go with the Sierra 135gr HP, if not any of the non-bonded would be a good choice. The Sierra 135gr doesn't penetrate very deep, but it kills hogs and deer like they were struck by lightning, so I can "assume" the same for a 2 leg attacker.

I've killed a few coyotes harassing farms near me and can confirm that the Sierra 135gn works great. Depending on how/what they hit, I've had the majority of them stop in the opposite side ribs or under the hide on the opposite side, with a couple exit having just enough momentum to stick in the bark of a tree behind it. I would probably put a bigger dent in the tree with an actual hammer in the case of the one I found.
None moved more than a couple steps from where they where hit.

I've been shooting a lot of hogs lately (exactly 200 YTD) but mostly sows and smaller hogs. Last night things changed and I got these two big boys. One was DRT and the other ran 30ft with a heart shot (still not sure how that happened since that wasn't my intended shot placement?), both with the Sierra 135gr HP-V.

Thanks, I appreciate it. That 110gr vmax works pretty good. At least it's dramatic.

If you can arrange some training time with Djones and his plethora of pigs I could probably get better under his tutelage. laugh

This is for anyone wondering about the CMMG Dissent, I sent them an email with some questions.. here's the exchange. ME: I would like to know if I could put a standard AR barrel with M4 feed ramps on the Dissent? or is the barrel extension proprietary? Would headspace be an issue with your bolt/carrier system? I was looking to make one into a 300 HAM'R Pistol.. I understand it would probably void the warranty.. Just wanted to know if it would be possible.. I know there would also be the issue of gas tube length and tuning it to run.. But that could easily be figured out. Thank you for your time and any info/assistance you can offer. CMMG: The Dissent does use standard AR15 barrels. And, yes, that would void the warranty, should doing so have a negative impact on the factory components of the firearm. More importantly, though, we urge you to proceed with extreme caution, if you insist on proceeding with that project. 🤣 Just some food for thought if you ever consider making a Dissent in 300 HAM'R, it is possible.. You'll void the warranty, and maybe blow your face off.. Just thought I'd share, because I couldn't find a single thing anywhere about whether or not it takes standard AR barrel extensions. HAM'R On.

In addition I just saw an AR15.com test of the Dissent. Naturally when you put a 6.5" barrel on a 5.56 you will get a very loud flame thrower. It is however, not totally unreasonable in a 300 BLK. In the 5.56 test the gun recoiled like you'd expect for something more like the 6.5 Grendel. I suspect that with a 300 Ham'r barrel the recoil would be beyond the design of the gun. The 5.56 recoiled enough that it would be a challenge to shoot it rapidly and still hit. My 7.5" 300 BLK normal AR is a breeze to shoot and I can punch steel with it at 200 yards with a 1x prism scope. I think the 8" Ham'r is about the same. Just my opinion but the Dissent does not appear ready for prime time to me.

"Group think" is not thinking. It is the lack of independent thought. It is a cancer of the mind.

I keep hoping BW will work with Sig and come up with some 300 ham'r barrels for the MCX platform. It looks like the Dissent uses a similar design to the MCX.
