Here is an interesting opinion piece sent to me by a relative (a physicist) who is very in tune with current events and how they correlate to our economy and political climate. It doesn't paint a very good picture. The embedded articles add some context. Any of you guys in the trucking industry hearing rumblings about this? https://instapundit.com/525719/

I work in the trucking parts industry and work/sell for the largest (domestic) DEF producer out there
There are DEF shortages coming, but not as bad as some paint it to be. Our manufacturer is still filling orders and strategically adding new customers. We do not supply Union Pacific nor Flying J/Pilot with their stuff, but the numbers in there are accurate (UP cutting half the supply to Pilot/Flying J by 50% and Pilot/FJ has 30% of the market). This is more of their core supplier having issues more than the market itself being messy
Urea comes from fertilizer and those shortages are slowing domestic production. My MFR is almost all domestic production, so import numbers don’t impact us as much
That being said, I have told my neighborhood buddies with diesels that haven’t deleted their systems to grab a few extra jugs

I was looking at insecticide at the grocery store and saw DEF right next to it. I mumbled to myself "that's cheaper than Walmart," Since I'd recently picked up a couple. The lady down the aisle rushed up and grabbed two cartons. She didn't look like she drove a diesel, but maybe Hubby told her to be on the look-out.

Wonder how many Really need that diesel power? All of the fleets toting around 53’ trailers full of food/groceries do. Lol. The impact of DEF supplies being cut from Pilot/Flying J alone will cause further inflation/supply issues at the stores

I wonder if they mean in the stores or on the truck side. I have gone to the truck side and pumped it right from the pump itself. Did it with the ambulances in Ft. Stockton. New ambulances, by the way, are almost all diesels. This could impact transfers from a small place like Ft. Stockton to Odessa or Midland hospitals.

It’s been talked about for a couple of months. We keep it in 1000 gallon tanks for our trucks, ans were told we would be taken care of. I did however buy 3 of the 330 gallon totes per each district to have on reserve.

I did however buy 3 of the 330 gallon totes per each district to have on reserve. We’ve got tons of availability currently for totes/bulk fill/drums/etc if ya need anymore. We’re actually positioned for a slight price decrease in July but then expected to go back up

If you can afford the diesel truck “just to have” you can afford the def. Ungodly numbers of people driving diesels that never tow anything a gasser couldn’t easily handle, many don’t tow a thing! I only feel for the individuals that need one for work and companies running multiple trucks, then again I’m sure most larger companies have the money as well.

He seems to be awfully worried about what others spend their money on. First it was fishing guides, now owning a diesel truck...maybe he needs to change his name to Karen.

I find this interesting. I need my 6.7 about 8 times a year. I really appreciate driving it the other 357 days.

Or maybe he’s lashing out at folks that will spend money on things he wants but either he can’t afford, or his wife tells him no ? Once again, I don’t care what people spend their money on. Quit bitchin about prices of stuff. The ups and downs of pricing are a part of life. The vegetable has caused most of this currently going on, but you shouldn’t be complaining unless owning said item is a necessity for you. I have zero interest in owning a diesel until I buy another 1500 class truck, will consider them at the time. Won’t buy stuff for a “status symbol” It’s quite easy to ruffle y’all’s feathers. Very entertaining
