6.8 is the rifle my daughter, grandkids and myself have used to kill more hogs than any other rifle in my safe. I can’t honestly recall every losing a pig that was shot with the 6.8, and I can say with confidence we’ve never lost a deer. I shoot the 120 grain Hornady SSTs and most of the hogs are DRT (vitals or head shot).

I've been shooting my 6.8 since 2020. It has effectively taken over 50 hogs and 4 deer during that time. I've used bullets ranging from Berger Elite Hunter at 108 grains to my personal favorite, the Hornady 95 grain SST. I've used Varget, H4895, I4895, H380, and RL15. To be perfectly straight with everyone, I rarely take any shot over 175 yards. None of the animals I have put down has ever traveled more than 50 yards from the spot wher it caught the bullet.

Killed many a hog with my 6.8 but haven’t used it much in the last 2 yrs bc hood ammo is hard to find.

I was looking at several AR calibers, and the 6.8 was one of them. I went with the 6.5 Grendel instead, since I had everything but brass on hand, and brass was easy to get. I just wasn’t sure that I could get all of what I needed to load for the 6.8. It must be hard to find factory ammo, and expensive.

Full disclosure, I shoot a 6.8 and reload for it. Just killed a 150#'er last night.
Where are your finding 6.5 Grendel brass? Everything I read it is a unicorn right now. Don't know about 6.5 bullets. I was looking at Grendel brass for a 6MM AR that uses 6.5 brass necked down.

Aren’t those bullet weights for 6mm? Those powders are too slow for 6.8 spc as well.

A softer bullet would probably solve your issue.

I've used 90gn in 6.8 with good results. I think 120 is almost the max, 108 should work fine, no?

Yeah, those weights work fine but there is no 95 SST or 108 Berger In 6.8.

Pigs are just tough. I’ve dropped them DRT and lost them. I started shooting a 30-06 with 180 gr and aiming for the neck. I haven’t lost a hog with that load and shot placement. They don’t go far.

I don't think DRT (Dead Right There) means what you think it means, or your loss of the hogs had nothing to do with toughness.

Like Dave said, those dang pigs are tough. No matter what I shoot ‘em with, I immediately get ready to shoot again. Any twitching seen and I’ll let fly again.

I have a farm out west of Cisco covered in hogs, have killed hundreds in the past 20 years plus. I reload and for some reason I haven’t had great luck with Accubonds, accurate as I can shoot them but I don’t get a lot of expansion and a good exit hole size, seems to pencil hole a lot. I do have a 6.8 and I reload it with 105gr MKZ with very good results. Those pigs can be very tough critters. I go for head shots now so they are DRT but in the past I shoulder shot them. I’d say about half would drop in the spot and not get up and the other half would run off 30-100 yards and it wasn’t caliber specific. I’ve shot plenty with .30 calibers from .300 savage to .300 Weatherby and if I want DRT, it’s gotta be somewhere upper neck/behind ear or head for 100% results. Bullet selection doesn’t matter much either, I was shooting Barnes TTSX, partitions, SST’s and even with the 300 weatherby, had a few shoulder shots were they dropped instantly, kicked around a few seconds and got up and ran off. Once you take out the first pig and the others start running and have adrenaline kicking in, unless your lucky enough to hit a runner in the head or spine somewhere, you almost always will have tracking to do.

I still use the 6.8 at times but my new go to for the most part is a 22 Nosler. I load it with 62 gr TTSX under 28.5 grains of Varget and it shoots super accurate. I put it right between their eyes or right behind the ear and it’s good night. It surprisingly does well on shoulder shots I’ve tried to see what they would do as well….my shots are almost always well within 150 yards, most of the time 80-100.

Get you a 50 Beawolfe. You can shoot in front of them and the gravel I’ll kill them. For real thou my son shoots one and pigs don’t run off if you hit their body.
