Coming into May I'm looking pretty good. My goal was to have a nice looking lawn for around $200.00ish a year for 5k square feet. Looks like I'm going to be closer to $250-300 this year. That's all in. Fert, micros for color, herbicides, fungicides, etc. I spray most of my stuff and once I have my cost spread sheet finished I'll update the total cost. Scott's diseaseEX and GrubEX add a lot to the total as a granular. I should and will spray the same product at some point, but the up front cost is expensive, but cost per app is a lot cheaper. $43 a month isn't too bad for 7 months.

First thing...... Your yard looks awesome. Second thing...... You didn`t figure in the cost for water. Third thing..........I`m envious of you guy`s with small lawns. I currently have 10,000+ sq. ft. of Tifway 419 and had 36,000 sq. ft. of St. Augustine that I drug a water hose around 45 oak trees to water for 18 years prior to this lawn. Luckily I am and was on a well. I am spending way more $$$ to maintain the Bermuda than 3.5 times St. Augustine by far. Living in the country has its pluses and minuses..... Again, Your lawn looks great.

Watering isn't bad. My bill might increase by $30ish come peak, June, July, August. But it is only 5k. I have my irrigation zones dialed in to drop a 1/2" when needed and I'm not on a set schedule right now. The next 10 days being an off year for the heat, so I will eyeball it. Come summer I'll probably water every 4 days. Mine is about a 85/15%+/- 419 and common mix. I can dial in the color close enough the common blends ok, but if you walk on it you can definitely see the common patches as the texture/blade size is not even close. I would love to have 7500-10k of flat front lawn. I like 419 as it responds well to different treatments, but there are a few other bermuda hybrids I would love to play around with.

My water bill increases from $40 a month to close to $300 a month watering approximately 20,000 sqft. Believe me when I say I water the absolute bare minimum at about 1 inch every 5 days. I absolutely hate having to maintain this yard and would give anything to move to Arizona and just have rock & dirt. When we lived on a 1/3 acre I loved taking care of that small yard and it was beautiful, now it’s a waste of money

Went back through the past years water bills and my highest was $77 last August. So I could easily see $300+ on 20k.I know the rule of thumb is 1" a week. Come July and August I'll probably be closer to that. Right now I'm maybe 1/2" a week if that. This was 2 weeks ago. Got 1.5" of rain on Thursday 5/5 and I took these pics on 5/9 using a cheap moisture meter. It was 90+ and high winds from the afternoon of 5/5-5/9 when I took the pic and the lawn didn't dry out much. 9.9 is the highest moisture reading. I had plenty of moisture at the time and no need to water. I watered Monday 5/16 because I put down an application and needed to water in. I probably won't water again until 5/23. Rain chances aren't great for the weekend but hopefully we get some and I can put off watering next week.

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this or not, please redirect me if it's not. It is semi lawn related though.

I have a portion of my back yard, that is sectioned off from the rest of the backyard, that honestly has kind of been neglected. At this point, I think it's probably nothing but weeds. Anyways, I'm looking to get this portion of the yard back under control and get it looking good again. How do you recommend getting rid of all the weeds that have run wild? Do I need to take it all the way back down to bare dirt and rebuild from there or am I good to just kill the weeds and start from there?

If it makes any difference, I am thinking about extending my garden partially into this space and adding a few raised beds. I only mention that, because I'd like to keep the area useable for plants/vegetables, in case I decide to go ahead with that plan.

Had new Zeon zoysia installed last year. Coming in nicely. I use a "reel" mower on the front.

Is it too late to put down Bermuda seed to patch up some areas of the lawn?

It's a perfect time for it. Just keep it moist. Typically if you were to seed a large area you would water 6am to 6pm every two hours and run your zones for just a couple minutes. So make some adjustments for small patch areas. If you can hand water a few times a day that would be good. Put a little bit of fertilizer down when you seed or the day before. You should get germination in about 7 days or so. Wait a couple weeks and when the bermuda forms it's 4th leaf fertilize it again.

You need to level your yard. It looks like a drunk blind marine giving a haircut. You also shouldn’t be seeing the outlines of the sod after a year.

I 100 percent agree. Already have a guy giving me a bid. I wanted to see what an actual first year after install would look like. It's actually the reel mower making those cuts due to the unevenness.

It looks great for the first year so I’d be proud of it. I’d be tossing the sand/organic mix on it ASAP though if you plan on doing it this year. I’ve never had good success after the middle of June leveling it do to the heat. The longer you wait the more organics and less sand in the mix will be needed to keep it from scorching the surrounding grass.
