I had the misfortune of a guest blowing up one of my rifle by mistakenly loading wrong ammo in gun (long story). As a result of this and other experiences, I have changed my safety procedures/preferences, especially around AR15's. I try to make it easier to distinguish the different cartridges (custom dust covers with cartridge stated on it, different types of magazines, and magazine bands stating the cartridge). I use the Lancer Mags for 300BO and most likely for 300HAM'R so definitely need a "300 HAM'R" Mag Band. I couldn't find what I was looking for so I reached out to a vendor, Metrix-Defense. He was willing to mock-up a mag band and make a small initial batch to test the water. Here is the link to the items on EBay: Magazine Bands "300 HAM'R"

I'm still surprised that SAAMI accepted the Blackout with this safety issue. We had to prove to SAAMI that no other cartridge would fit and fire in the 300 HAM'R chamber that would cause a safety issue. Smoked Pork, who's your contact at Metrix? If we can make a few % on them we'll stock them on the WC site.

I have always marked the BLK mags and even the rifles themselves. Yet I blew one up and know of 2 people who almost managed to do it in the last couple years. The best solution I know of is to keep everything separate and only take one cartridge/rifle out per shooting. Even then the risk is real and still permits a moment of inattention to make a kaboom. So my final solution is to convert my 300 BLK AR's to 300 Ham'r AR's. One is done and the other will be later this year. I really love the super BLK's (I don't shoot subs) but the inherent danger is too much for me. The 300 Ham'r does everything better in supers anyway.
"Group think" is not thinking. It is the lack of independent thought. It is a cancer of the mind.

My experience with 300BO blowing up a 5.56 was that a guest picked up a live round off the ground and then loaded it into the 5.56 magazine without noticing the difference. Guests no longer load anything. They are handed full mags.... i now own a lot of mags. Aside from custom dust covers and distinctly different magazines with mag bands, my protocols for guests is that Only One Cartridge At A Time. I load all mags in advance and store them in separate sealed containers (tuperware), with no loose rounds that guest might be tempted to insert in a rifle or magazine. Before pulling out rifles with different cartridge, everything gets put away (rifles, mags, loose ammo) and the shooting area gets thoroughly patrolled for any loose rounds (bench, ground, and i anyones pockets). Only then do the new rifles come out of the car.

These are all over eBay and Facebook ads I’ve had these for 5 months and still use red tape because they roll off. At least the cats love to play with them.

Hey guys -
Wanted to dip my toe in the pool with an inexpensive optic to put on one of my hammers for night time hogs.
Was looking at playing with the Sightmark Wraith 4k Mini. What's the opinion of all you night pig slayers about trying this optic without having to sell the farm.
Thanks!

Thanks! It’s a really decent economy option if you accept that you will not have the opportunity to shoot like DJones videos. One, maybe 2 consecutive shots with a HAMR if you can move left after your shot breaks, and then the smoke will white out your image. I could shoot feeder hogs every night with mine if I were inclined.

I received the first batch of the new mag bands. They are nice and sturdy. With normal use they will stay in place on magazines. The only way these will roll off is if DJones shackles them behind the truck for a drag with the rest of the night's kill.
Nothing wrong with using tape - I got mags stored away with tape. I'm a Big Fan of blue painters tape. Great for use as double sided tape to hold jigs together in the shop...Google it. More importantly, we use it for marking scuba tanks.... it doesn't peel off even after hours of being submerged and repeat usage.

give them some time. Heat cycles of being in a buggy/vehicle day after day, UV in the daylight breaking them down, carrying them regularly in the field with a slung rifle, gear sliding across them. . . they get more loose with use. I'm a huge fan of painters tape for the reasons you mentioned but I can't seem to have a roll of that not walk off within a couple days. Everyone just seems to need it for something & then it slides off into a black hole I have a dozen 300blk Pmags (they only come in black) that I spray painted tan by caliber. I made the mistake of using tan for a couple trips & after catching the wrong gun/mag combo in someone's hands I spray painted all the 300blk mags construction zone orange. On another note. Im a bit disappointed that neither of my primary 16" HAM'R rigs like the new PMAG 300blk 20 round magazines. I got a shipment in a bit ago and finally got some time between commitments to strip all the rounds out of my Lancers and fill the 20 round magpuls. Luckily I had 2 new thermals to zero and when I was at the bench I caught that they weren't feeding. Has anyone had any success with the 20 round 300blk pmags feeding their HAM'R? It has to be a COAL/follower issue of some sort. Once it cools down a bit I plan on getting to the zero range and fiddling with them and a file to see what I can come up with.

I got in 6 of the 20rd P-Mags and have been using one as a "bench" mag when load testing an zeroing, so far I haven't had any function issues with it and I've shot quite a variety of ammo through it.

Thank you for that information. I really want these to work so I'm going to figure it out. I know I'm pushing close to max COAL with a significant'y compressed load. It just hit me that I could have some COAL growth so I'll reexamine that. In other related news before the chronograph and phone both locked up from the heat yesterday it showed the 110vmax was scooting along out of the 11.3" at 2552fps avg on 10 shots and grouping surprisingly well.

This little sickly pig was my 25th hog with the 150gr SST. Tried several other HAM’R Rounds on hogs but always come back to the 150gr SST round.

Be nice if we could get some 300 HAM’R magazines instead of using the 300 Blackout.

I'm a big fan of the Lancer smoke colored mags. Very reliable and easy to see how many rounds you have. I embarrassed myself once by grabbing a solid black mag that only had 3 rounds left. I have to admit I've only used them for the 300 Ham'r so I can't testify how they would handle 5.56 if you're seeking dual capability.
