The battle also played a role in the American Civil War. With Napoleon III defeated and leaving North America, the Confederacy wasn't able to use the French as an ally to win the war.

Yet every calendar I can think of that I have had in the past tells you it's Cinco De Mayo. My current calendar this year is a Smithfield Pork calendar.

A lot of people don't realize what Cinco de Mayo really is about. Here's the TRUE story. In May of 1912, there was a huge Elote festival planned in Mexico, and the whole country was anticipating the celebration. There were crates of Mayonnaise loaded on the Titanic that was supposed to arrive in Mexico on May 5th. News of the Titanic sinking reached mainland Mexico on May 5th, and the nationwide celebration had to be canceled. Ever since, Sinko de Mayo had been set aside as a day of remembrance of that tragic event. Gringos have changed the "s" to a "c" because they just don't know any better.

I'll drink to that. Best Cinco De Mayo parties are in San Antonio.

That's because it's a holiday in the USA and not celebrated in Mexico. It's really a Mexican heritage holiday.

No. Cuz every day for them could be Independence Day whether they come legally or even more so illegally.

It’s very little Mexicans crossing border. It’s Salvadorians, Haitians, Africans, Guatemalans, etc.
