Next 2-3 weeks it time to get your GrubEx out. GrubEx does not kill existing grubs in the soil. The June bugs you see flying around now, as they lay their eggs on the soil and the grubs try to enter the soil it kills them. The other big thing it does it prevents army worms. And last years army worm outbreak was huge. GrubEx needs to be watered in very well so if you don't have irrigation get it down just before a good rain chance. I'm waiting for Amazon to run their $15 a bag special. I'll post if I see it. If not I'll just pick some up at the box store in a couple weeks.

Any advice for wild onions / garlic in the yard and how to get rid of those?

What's your turf type?

Sulfentrazone is what you need. Don't apply it when temps are over 85 or you could get some yellowing of your grass.

Not bad for mid April. Another 4 weeks and I should be golden. Last mow was 5 days ago.

Why didn’t you go ahead and mow that extra 4’ to your neighbors drive?

Derek's lawn stands out more the way it is. It's called line domination.

== Edit ==
Plus, the neighbor obviously doesn't care about their lawn, so why should Derek. And, don't want to taint your own equipment with their weeds.

His mower took a dump and he's supposed to be getting a new one this week. Dallis grass is his dominate turf grass lol.

Derek,

What sprayer would you recommend for a zero turn mower for 1 acre, prob only treat .5-.75 of that for Bermuda. My zero turn doesn’t have a hitch, so either a pull behind or mower mounted one is fine as I’ll have to build an attachment point anyways.

North Star from Northern tool is probably the most popular. I would try a couple different spray nozzles and see what you like. Practice on concrete to see what your spay pattern looks like. Then practice the area you’re going to spray with just water. If you can avg either 1 or 2 gallons per 1000 you’re golden.

I redid my flower beds a couple years ago. When I did I ran gutter pop ups under my beds and the exit being right on the other side. They seem to work pretty well for the most past. The only issue I have is when we get heavy rains, I always seem to get a lot of water backing up where my down spout meets the corrugated pipe. Is there a way to keep this from happening or at least cut the over flow down? It washes my mulch away in 2 spots. Would tape solve my problem?

I got the first water rock rolling this weekend, I hooked up a small pump until the bigger one shows up this week. Now it’s time to tackle the 4000 pound monster in the other flower bed and then the plants and shrubs can go in followed by tons of river rock. The boss is over mulch so she wants all rock in the flowerbeds this year.

That's going to look really nice after you get the bigger pump set up. How big of a reservoir do you have underground for it?

It’s got a Aquabasin 45 under it which is 98 gallons I believe with about 2.5’ completely surrounding it of 40 mil mat to catch any splash. I may have to add more with the bigger pump, I was kinda surprised how much splattered and how far it went with the little pump.

I bet that is big enough. I have a couple water features. A raised rock pond with a stream that runs around one side of it. I was using mostly recycled materials and made the mistake of not using a large enough underground container at the end of the stream. It's only a problem during the heat of the summer due to evaporation. We have to top it off with a water hose at least once a week to keep the waterfall to the stream running. I'm probably just going to install a small water line on a sprinkler timer set to top off the pond on a schedule rather than dig it all up. My other one is a fire hydrant. It has a 55 gallon plastic barrel under ground with the pump raised on a milk crate so I have a sump at the bottom. Some droplets do splash out of it and my dog gets all his water from it, but it runs fine for one to three months without adding water.

I would like to do a water rock next. Somewhere near my front door entrance. My only worry is it might attract every cat on the street to drink from it every day. My pond and fire hydrant in the back already attracts every wild critter from all over. Maybe if I do one with fire and water, it will keep the cats away from it.

These pictures are 6-7 years old, but it has not changed much. Really has not needed much maintenance other than replacing the pumps and cleaning out the sumps at 5 years. And once adding watercress around the fire hydrant resulted in 5 ft long roots that grew all the way down to my pump and stopped it up.

I like that set up with the fire hydrant,, I put a fill valve in the tub and hooked it into the sprinkler system zone next to it so it will get topped off every few days. I was pretty sure it would get ran dry and destroy a high dollar pump and I’d be blamed for it wink

This one is right outside the front door and the big ones going out back, so far I haven’t had any cats messing with it, a few birds splashing in it but that’s it.

Rule of thumb is like 1yrd per 1000sq feet of sand and adjusted for situations like yours. I have seen people go much heavier amounts. I've seen 4" sand caps done on bermuda and the bermuda grew right through it and filled in great. It did take the bermuda 3-4" months to fill in but it did great. You'll want good temps for high growth potential too. I would probably target late April to mid May or so. Maybe even late May. If I don't get too lazy, I'm going to try and do a full sand level this year on the front and back. Backyard needs it bad.

So I got me a load of the packing sand. I started last night filling in the worst of the voids. How do you go about doing "a full sand level"? Spread a lot of sand by hand and use some form of drag? What kind of drag would you use? I have not decided if I will sand the whole yard or just get the bad spots taken care of for the time being. Either way, I will have to figure out the best way to level what I have done. I have plenty of scrap metal laying around to make what is needed.

Make piles all over the place then smooth those out by spreading it around with a shovel then go over everything with a drag mat. Make your own mat with a piece of chain link or a small square cattle/goat panel. When I do my backyard I can't fit anything though my gate to drag a mat so I will do it manually with a leveling rake. It's going to suck.

So I have about half of my back yard sanded and drug. I will continue working my way through until it is finished. I believe I am pretty close to the 1 yard per 1,000 on what I have put out. Is there any special treatment I need to be doing to my yard after I finish sanding? I fertilized the weekend before Easter. Does it need to be watered daily? We are set to get some decent rain tomorrow.

Wait for the rain. Fertilizer is up to you. I fertilize every 4 weeks at a rate of 1/2lb(rounded) of actual Nitrogen per 1000. Example. If I was using 15-5-10 that would be 3.5lbs of fert every 1000.
