I was having a discussion with a buddy of mine about this earlier and he thought I had lost my ever lovin mind...
We were talking about the best all around gun, for shooting deer, coyote, pigs and well basically anything within 300 yards.
My gun of choice is a 22-250. I have not had an animal run more then 15 yards once they are hit.
I take neck shots only, because if I miss a shot, it will be a clean miss and I dont like to take a chance on wounding an animal then having it run off.
So I am going to ask you guys, if you could just take one rifle with you.
What would it be???

What would it be??? Well it wouldn't be the 22-250 or any other 22 caliber that's for sure. To make my list it needs at least 2000 ft-lbs at 100 yards.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I love my 22-250, but I would have to say 25-06.

For me, a non-magnum 7mm.....7-08, 7x57, or .284 Win, if we're talking Texas hunting. Out west or up north, I'd go bigger.

I'm gonna disagree with your theory that a neck shot is a clean kill or a clean miss. If you don't hit the spine or cut the jugular, it can be a sorry situation for the deer.
And if you are using a 22 caliber varmint rifle for deer (e.g., 22-250) I hope you are using bullets designed for deer and not bullets designed for prairie dogs!

Tried and true 30/06. Specificaly older model Remington 760.
Wouldnt argue with a 270 or 308 or 30/30 though.
Not sexy but gets it done. Kinda like me:)

I'm going to say that I would take my 7mm-08 with me. I like the short action, medium-low recoil, and flat shooting. Best thing is that I know what I can do with that gun and caliber so its what I feel best with in the field.
I like going for heart and lungs because the target is bigger.

I can make anything work, but I guess 6mm rem...
but also have a 204 ruger that'll get the job done, few things walk away from a head shot.

.270 Winchester. Jack O'Connor was never wrong. Also a fan of the 25-06, 30-06 and .300 WSM for the big stuff. .223 for my predator work. Adios, Gary

A good 270 with the proper ammunition for the task is hard to beat. I would feel confident with it to take anything but the biggest bears.
