I have not been out yet this year. My boat has been in the shop for over 3 weeks now, I'll be getting started here soon.

Small streams for me and the trout are hungry right now.
Saw a huge brook trout to target this weekend if it's not snowing.

It is the first time I ever put my boat in the shop, I figured it needed some love from a real mechanic after 8 years..

I wish I was fishing that trout stream right now. It reminds me of a spot I fished near the CO WY border in Routt NF. I had lots of plans for fishing this spring, but my dog having cancer has grounded me somewhat because I don't want to leave him alone for very long. Cancelled my spring POC Redfish trip this year. Missed out on the white bass creek/river runs I was going to do with the kayak and canoe. Had hoped to do another Colorado trout run, but that is not going to happen. I may resort to fishing the creek at the end of the road near me. It had a kidfish a few days ago and should have plenty of stocked catfish left behind.

They are the cheapest. If I was younger, I would not worry. But I'm starting to get old duck and bass, not sure how much longer I should keep trying to do this 3am duck hunting stuff..

I been doing pretty good doing routine maintenance myself. But valve lash has never been reset, I watched some YouTubes how to do it, just too much for me. And choke, for some reason does not stay pull out all the way to start it, it pops back in some.. end of season I had to use vice-grips to keep it pulled out to start it, I tried to fix it and couldn’t. And just wanted to get it inspected by a pro, clutch, drive belt, drive shaft…. I’ll get a new motor eventually, next year or so… If I was rich like mohunter I would get a new motor today.

I wade fished in the wind Saturday. Limit of slot reds and flounder. Fresh fried flounder for dinner tonight. Redfish on the half shell tomorrow.

Fished Thursday for about three hours. Bass are wrapping up the baby making. Bream have moved in shallow.
Caught ten, no biggies. Chatterbaits and lizards. Hydrilla is starting to take off.

Cbump, did I miscount, or were you 1 short of a limit.....the countless hours I've wasted trying to catch that last one so I can say I caught my limit.

But to answer the question, have done okay but have not fished as much this year. Been to my fish camp on the river one time this year. Waters been to low. Still put up 30 lbs or so of fillets this year.

Had shoulder survey last August and finally got the green light to go fishing two months ago. Drove two hours to fish Choke Canyon and blew my motor fifteen minutes after I put the boat in the water. Bunch of $$$ later I got it back two weeks ago and went to Canyon Lake to begin six hours of break in time. Fished for 30 minutes and caught 3. Two small black’s and a smallmouth that was 17 inches long. [Linked Image]

Nice mess of Cats!

Do you fillet them or skin them? People have told me you cant fillet them like a Crappie or Sandbass but thats the only way I have ever known. You just have to be real careful not to cut through the skin when filleting the meat away from it. I just use the middle of the blade and pull the fish into the blade rather than push the blade into the fish like I do Crappie and Sandbass.

I then chunk the bigger filets up. We got about 90 pieces of fish out of these.
