I have owned a place in Coleman county for 2 years now and haven’t seen many turkeys. We seen more in the spring than fall but a couple have been dead hens drug off the nest and eaten. I hear some places are over run and the turkey are a nuisance, then I hear the population just isn’t what it use to be. I’m down 283 about a mile from Home creek. How does the rest of Coleman county population look like?
When I had my place just a few miles SE out of Santa Anna we were covered in them during the spring & summer. Never saw many in the fall. I believe they moved towards the river in the winter months.
I'm up north from you in Callahan county. Predator control is key and is just not done anymore due to pelt prices. Coons can play havoc on Turkey populations. Balance out your coons, yotes, possums and skunks and you'll see some Turkeys come back.

I agree that the predators have a lot to do with the population.
We have a decent population on our lease in Coleman, we're a bit west of you by the sounds. We have at least three different groups that our crew has spotted anywhere from 8 to 10 birds. Don't know if I'd classify them as a nuisance for us just yet, but they are caught on feeder cams stealing corn from time to time. Few folks nabbed a few in the fall season, but I'd be lying if I said they weren't taken out of pure convenience. Few of us are headed back out for spring turkey season.
