Almost done, only thing left is cutting the small door for them to get in the coop and making ramp.

Lots of blood and sweat in this one literally haha.

Looking good amigo. It may not be an issue where you live, but I put a row of 12" x 12" concrete pavers around the bottom of my coop to keep the dogs/coyotes/coons/possums/snakes out. Works well.

Thanks bud, I don’t have any of those problems besides maybe possums, but my dog would get the possum before it got the chickens I’d imagine. I did build up the foundation with some left over decomposed granite. So should harden up a bit with some rain. up

Had snakes get in, but 2 American bulldogs that tried one night did not get in. They broke several parts of the heavy wire like used on dog pens but did not get in.

We’ve been introducing our GSD to them when they were little and all the way up until now. While I’ve been outside working on the coop we’ve had the chickens running around the back yard my GSD just lays down and looks them. I don’t think he’ll mess with them.

Are you going to close off the gap between the rafters and the wall plate? I had a raccoon and a possum get inside of my roost area. I closed it off with hardware cloth like you have on the sides. It still left the vented area breath.
Good luck with you chickens and post up your first eggs.

Yea at some point I’ll be covering with the hardware cloth. I got plenty left over. But I’ve spent a lot of time on this already and need to catch up on some other projects. I’ve never saw a coon around my neighborhood and only 2 possums, one was dead on the road and the other dead in my back yard because my GSD got him. I’m not too worried about it but will eventually cover those areas though.

Can’t wait for my first eggs.

I think I was bamboozled. I bought 4 hens.

Looks like I had 2 hens and 2 roosters.

What’s y’all’s thought. One started trying to crow.

My chickens are acting weird lately. They all stopped laying eggs (30 something chickens), and my roosters quit crowing (thank God). Before they would never shut up, strange.

My believed “roosters” are twice the size of the hens.

More meat! chicken

I guess you roll the dice every time you buy birds, huh? Is there a way to positively identify chicks?

I bought them from tractor supply. They had a group that was guaranteed to be pullets. hens.
Maybe not.

If I see the big ones trying to crow, it’s lights out.

TSC is hit or miss on pullets, if you want a better chance buy from a hatchery. I use McMurray but you'll pay a lot more than TSC.

Check and see if you have predators around. We had Red Tailed Hawks nest above out chicken coop and ours did the same thing. We eventually gave up and re-homed them.
