I am fixing to buy a can. Trying to get as much info as possible. My question is A) trust or no trust? Is there such a thing as single shot TRUST? Have daughters so I doubt I will be handing it down. Just want to shoot and have fun with it. Please advise.

Mine is on an individual but I need to transfer it to a trust so wife and kids are on it, soo the ATF gets $200 more dollars and that is legalities.

Then go the individual route.

97 days from when?

The big advantage of an NFA trust (or NFA corporation, LLC, etc) is that you can appoint other people to use your NFA firearms. If you own a suppressor, SBR, etc. individually, you cannot allow anyone else to possess, use, or access it. This can cause problems for someone who is married and the spouse has "constructive access" to the firearm because she knows the safe combination or such.

I own my SBRs in an NFA trust. If/when I get any suppressors, they go in the trust. When I buy an M14 or an old WW1 BAR, it goes in the trust. Later on, I can let my brother-in-law, or a TFF/THF friend, use any of these firearms by appointing him as a trustee.

Main downside of a trust or corporate entity is that every active trustee or corporate officer must submit their "Responsible Person" materials with the Form 1 or Form 4 application. This only applies to any individuals who hold those roles at the time of application. Not a big deal if you set up a 'one shot' kiosk trust and you're the only trustee at the time, especially if you don't intend to add any more cans or other toys into the trust.

Setting up a trust is so simple and cheap there is no reason anyone who I’d buying NFA weapons shouldn’t go that route. Uncle Zeek listed a lot of great reasons but how your goodies are handled when you die is a huge deal. You only have daughters? Well someday they may get married and I am sure when you croak you would rather have your grandson wind up with your stuff without a giant hassle of having to repay for tax stamps to transfer things.

The typical gun trust is short simple and can be modified at any time by the owner. It is kind of a pain when you buy something new as every trustee must submit fingerprints and photos but that is only when you buy something. It is perfectly legal to add and remove people from the trust as often as you wish. You can literally add a single page to the back of your trust removing all trustees but yourself, buy a can, when it is approved then add a single page to the trust and add whoever you want.

Not even close to 97 days from purchasing. Maybe 100 to 110 days after being certified yes. But from purchase to acquisition is looking like 6 months. My buddy whom we bought on the same exact day got his 2-3 weeks ago. 5 months after he bought it and 105 days after being certified.. I thought mine came in a few days ago but evidently not. So Im on day 110 aprox and that was from certification and still waiting. The 18th will be 6 months for me with eforms!

I used the silencer shop single shot trust. Was really simple. I think you have to wait until approved to add more people.

I e-filed, from the time I paid and completed paperwork at the store it was 107 days

Anybody ever use Silencer Central for setting up trust and purchase of can?
What if I set up a trust before all trustees had to go through background checks, fingerprinting, etc. can I still add new acquisitions to the existing trust, or do I have set up a new trust?

Do the trustees that are added later have to submit new prints and photos?

The only time that trustees have to submit prints & photos is when the trust submits a new form 1/form 4 etc. In my case, my trust has tax stamps already, and I can add a new trustee at any time who can use the NFA firearms. The new trustees don't need to send anything to ATF unless the trust applies to acquire or build a new NFA firearm.

While we are on the subject, so much for 90 day approvals on e-form 4. Just called Riflegear to get an idea and they said they are just now getting approvals for forms submitted in February. I’m just past the 90 day mark is why I inquired about it.

ATF claimed they would increase staffing to try and keep the wait around 90 days. Yeah, right.

Do a trust, but do it after you receive your suppressor.
I just received my can and it took 13 1/2 months to receive it (Silencer Shop kiosk before e-form was available).
My gun dealer said it would have been delayed even longer if I had a trust attached with it.

Moving into trust after the fact would require an additional tax stamp I believe.

It’s worth an extra $200 if the wait goes from 13 months to 90 days for some people, especially if it’s your first suppressor.

Are there any problems/delays if you buy more than 1 can when you first open the trust? As in, does it throw any red flags?

I’m considering getting 3 at once, don’t want or need ATF knocking on my door asking why.

Last time I did 3 at once it actually went faster. But it's the ATF, so who knows what will happen for you.
