We keep 1 gallon milk jugs filled with water frozen at our place. We put those in the chest cavity and let them hang in the shade. You’d be surprised how cool the carcass will get

The reach in ice bins from convenience stores, like shown above, are great. You can adjust the temp set-point to maintain just above freezing and they work awesome. The ones usually found inside the stores, with glass doors, and better because the doors are taller and easier to get deer in and out of and are usually taller. One of those will hold three to four east tx or hill country bucks or a half dozen doe.

Currently, the processor I like is 50 miles away, on my way home from the property. So if I'm not going home right away I skin and quarter and ice down asap if warm out, if temps are 45 or below I'll hang one overnight. My experience is, no matter how warm or cold, as long as the body temperature is falling there is no negative impact on the meat, Once it stabilizes at a temp of 45 or higher, bad things can happen. Whether true or not that's my outlook.

Tolerance is the virtue of a man without conviction.

The end of the world began the day it was created, and life is a sexually transmitted terminal disease.
