Done it more than once. Distemper and rabies would both be high on the suspect list. Dispatch asap and keep pets away.

Back in the day in the country, we would put some wood on top, add some diesel or kerosene then burn in place. That is after a 22 shot. Don’t shotgun it if possible.

After burning then bury the remains away from where it won’t get dug up by pets.

Then use cleaner and water on the shovel.

Shoot it, dig hole, place in hole with a bucket full of split wood chunks and cup of diesel, burn well. (Even add more wood if you want). Cover with dirt.

I'm in the city limits. That's a no go.

Cut head off with sharp shooter and then dispose the body and head. This isn't that hard.

Animal control is so much easier, besides they will also test it for rabies and other diseases.
