It is at the crossroads juncture of FM 783 and FM 648 in NW Gillespie County. It is in the valley and you will see the church steeple from afar.

I know i’m kicking up an old thread but I heard the Doss Store closed last week and the lady that was running it retired. Too bad too, I liked that place, nice to have a restaurant only 15 min from the lease. Hope someone new comes along and reopens it soon.

Hopefully someone will come along and reopen it. Neat place, always busy and not real close to anything else.

It was really only busy on weekends, and they had a hard time keeping help. The food quality suffered that reason. Maybe on of you fellers can buy it and try your luck. Pretty sure someone will come along soon, business in Harper are being bought out mostly by foreigners.

Takes a special breed to run a restaurant properly. I couldn't do it. You can't hire kids and then you leave. You have to be there 99.99% of the time.

'Couple Arab brothers have Gino's sub shop at Huebner and Lockehill-Selma in San Antonio. They have an almost cult following and it's merited. One of the brothers is always there. It is their entire lives.

And, they have traffic every day, as opposed to just the weekend crowd as stated above.

Thats very true, business ownership is not easy. The ones who have bought the stores and gas stations here are making great improvements.

Gotta wonder if the Doss Curmudgeon is now in down syndrome? Closest restaurant is now Hill Top and that won't be an option.

Haven't been to the Doss area in a spell to verify but I hear the Doss Store has a new lessee. Hopefully they will be open soon!

That place was great, is the feed store still open? It was awesome to have somewhere to grab some grub during the offseason filling feeders.
Do they still have the fish fry down the road in September. I haven’t been there in a few years. I hunted down the road on the icky’s place.

Not sure what the status of the feed store is at the moment, hopefully when the General Store\restaurant reopens so will the feed store. They still have the volunteer fire department fish fry on the Saturday before Labor Day.

Wow, how sad. This place was bad azz. Wife and I spoke about going back on a weekend and catching live music. I hate when small family places close like this.

Ate at the newly reopened Doss Store & Country Kitchen last Saturday night. I will have to say that was probably the best chicken fried steak I have had in a long time, a bit pricy ($25) but it was the highlight of my opening weekend. I forgot to ask them if the feed store was also re-opened.

Eaten there a few times running back and forth to our place out in Real / Edwards County. Great little spot and good food.

Mentioned to the lady behind the counter how neat / clean / nice the town was. She said, "Yeah, a bunch of old square heads around here make sure we keep it that way."

First time I'd heard that one in a while...
