With mount and rings hitting here yesterday and getting my hands on some cheap ammo to get started with I went to an indoor range nearby. (Rifle Gear nice, BTW) I usually do my own bore sight, but with this ammo being at a premium I took it back to Scheels. Sales guy told me they were good at it, no charge, why not. At 25 yards, first shot this rifle ever made, I'm low. I liked it, and sent the target down to 100. I'm like .750" high, windage is still good. I had my torque wrench with me, everything still good on the rings so I sent another. Right there with it. I sent a 4th, left about 1/2". I waited 10 minutes or so and fired a 5th and final shot and it's with the group. I have some ELDX on the way, but this "cheap" stuff, may hunt some big boars between now and mule deer season. We have a set up with a dedicated hog feeder that could be a lot of fun with this. This is my 3rd Tikka, second with this identical scope and 7th Tikka rifle I have first hand knowledge of shooting like this. This is going to be a great hunting rifle. [Linked Image]

I wish I had a pic of the target after the last shot. This ammo shot great and is a long way from the Corelok t I shot 25-30 years ago. It was the only thing I could find locally on the shelf, and to foul the barrel and put some rounds through it I wasn't too picky.

Remington ammo is a Vista Outdoors brand now so quality will and has vastly improved. First thing they did was double employees.

Congrats on a nice rig. Those Ol’ pot bellied big ears are in for a rude awakening

Such a shame of a group, for such a good rifle.

It'll do 1" at 200 yards.

What is the size of that 2 shot group? Knowing the Ø of the bullet holes, scale it. Or, knowing that from the center of the black dot, to the 1/2 way point between each shot was 2.6"

Help me out with this one also, muzzle velocity:
Height above bore, 1.65"
G1, .631
Temp, about 50°
Bullet weight, 162 gr.
Elevation, 2200'

You said 2.6" at 200 yards. I took that to mean 2.6" at 200 yards, center to center.

I don't know know what you're wanting help with.

I think he meant it dropped 2.6” at 200, could you determine muzzle velocity from that given the other specs.

Edit- using the BulletDrop app, I got 3000 fps.

I have a CTR in 223 and 308. I really like the newer Tikka Models they have come out with the last 2 years, roughech, veil, and Super varmint.

It is near impossible to determine MV with only 200 yards as the only data. I nail down MV with 500 to 800 yards. And do it with Mil or MOA. Your scope is MOA.

Looks like about 0.5-.75", based on pics. Nice shooting.

I love those VX-5/6HD scopes as well.

With that scope, Leupold acknowledges that gravity exists, but they ignore the fact that wind exists, with that big duplex reticle. They "almost" made a really good medium range hunting scope.

And another. Shot two 3 shot groups yesterday. This rifle is settling in now with a few very high probabilities. The first shot always hits the diamond (100 yards). The second, maybe .333-.500" off, the 3rd shot as shown. I shot these two groups with no cooling between shots, and about 1 hour between groups. It was only about 105° yesterday so a couple bottles of water and some shade, a few pistols and two rimfires filled the time between groups on the 7m Rem Mag.

How I measured the group: Measure the bullet, zero the calipers, measure the group.

I finally got some range time at 300. 323 yards to be exact, had to push the target out to be able to see it over one of the hills. Since it heats up and about three shots is all I want to do, and I'm also enjoying killing big pigs with it I just shoot it once or twice every time I take it out on paper and keep track of DOPE. Then it's on to hunt something with it.

So, at 323 yards it's at 14" of drop. I put this, along with some other shots made over the last few months, into a few calculators and it's doing what it should for this ammo. This rifle is a laser. Pay no attention to the top target, it's old. I was holding on the center bull of the top target and at 323 yards windage is less than 1" off, drop is right at 14". I'm confident enough and have plenty of data to order my CDS dial. [Linked Image]

Sweet rifle, and nice shooting. If you ever change your load, etc and don't want to order a new CDS dial, these work great, and are durable......

Yes, with good results. Lately I've gone to simple MIL dials, but they work real good for CDS systems.

Shot this coyote across the canyon, saw him, ranged 339 yards with Sig RF binos, dialed to 330 and he was dead. I was set up for a 300 yard shot on hogs, wanting to see how this bullet acted on a dense, heavy animal at that range. (This is off season mini camp for deer season) I've confirmed zero many times over the last year, and my dial only to 200 yards and it was on. Really glad to see how good it was at this range and had to make this shot pretty quick. This rifle has been acting this way since day one, cold bore shot is $. I've got almost a year on this set up and it's consistent. We're planning some steel time on the river out to 500 yards here soon.

Bobcat, your son will like this post.
