Went a rabbit hunt with the dog, a 14 months old Parsons Terrier and chasses rabbits fine, Not many rabbits to found on this property.
Flushed two coveys of quail and took two out of each one. The terrier was spot on flushing single birds and finding them in dense grass.
Never thought I would use a Parsons terrier for a bird dog. But he finds and flushes quail just fine. Does not point, I am ok with him working 10-15 feet in front. Only bad thing is he likes to hold on to the birds.
Any one else ever use a Parson terrier for hunting other than rabbits?

Very cool dog. Are they any less caffeinated than a Jack Russel? Lost our lab a few months ago and the wife wants a smaller dog. My Blue Lacey won't appreciate it one bit, but I thought I'd start doing research. I think I need to be proactive so I'm not seen walking some little foo-foo PITA someday in the near future.

Get a runt Brit. Best dog I ever had was a very small Brittany. Hard hunter and best house dog I've had.

Creekrunner ( Are they any less caffeinated than a Jack Russel?) No they are just as demanding to be worked. Exercise is needed as part of the dogs daily routine. I feel they are more focused than Jack Russel's. The desire to hunt is a trait that this dog and litter mates have. There is a complaint that the breed does make a true house dog, even though they are on average 15 pounds or less. The desire to hunt and the intelligent behavior get's them in trouble. But in the field it why they track/chase so well. They have a good noise and love to dig things, a trait from rabbiting hunting.

Outstanding! Long ago I did my quail hunting with a runt Treeing Walker hound. She was a pack tree dog by night, but daytime I hunted her alone for rabbits and quail. Day hunting she would stay close, ground track quail and flush, but she would not retrieve. The first time it was an accident while rabbit hunting, then started hunting quail on purpose from then on. She got really good at it and was the dog that first got me interested in getting a versatile breed.

My uncle had a terrier bulldog, it was the best dove retriever I ever had the pleasure of hunting with.

I've had a 28 lb American Brit and a couple of 55 lb American Brits (have one currently). If you can find a small one that's your ticket.

my J Russell has a nose like a blood hound, but when outside the switch is never on off, no control, in the house I can teach her a new trick in 5 minutes.

Another great little flushing canine is the English Cocker. High energy and focus.

Never thought about a flushing dog for quail. How does it work? I guess the only issue would be for it to work very close to you.

I've got a male brittany that is 30lbs soaking wet. Got a female that's about 35lbs. Still get the job done in big country.

I dont know about bird hunting, but my ex wife had a yorkie that was an excellent shed hunter. Never trained to do it, just did it! Also, he didn't believe he was 8 lbs used to be a regular at the vets to get stitched back together after repeated run ins with a semi feral tom cat that we let live in the barn in exchanged for him killing mice.

Ah YES on getting a French Brit ! We've had a couple great house dogs and self taught hunters. Look at a professional breeder in Oklahoma just north of Texoma, who's buying his brood stock in France . Only reason we don't have another one right now is that we were "inherited" with our first Lab...who had been passed around 3 times before we got him, and was headed to the pound when we got involved. Only other choice will be a Springer as the 2nd dog in the house.

I had a deposit down for a French Brit from Matt Keller in Arizona but got so discouraged facing more back surgery that I gave up on it. I may still find a pup.
