Looked at the various ads, and couldn't beat my local Fred Meyer (Kroger). They were Choice grade, instead of Select too. The sale price was half off regular, and with the digital coupon, another $2 off to get the $5.97. No extra purchase required. Limit was one per customer, and they were flying out of the case!

I went in and got the biggest they had at the time, about 13#, and was happy with the result. They are pre-packaged at the plant, with a lot of liquid and the mesh restraint, instead of tied, but looked good in the bag.

The wife was home from the doctor when I got back, and I told her we should get another one on her account number. We went back, and they were down to just little bitty ones. The main butcher is a friend so I asked if they had any bigger ones, and he said no, but he would cut me a fresh aged one hanging in the cooler and give me the same price. World of difference!! Would 15# be enough??

Got them home, and cut multiple roasts and packages of steaks of both of them. Vacuum packed and labeled, we are good for a long while. One happened to go into the oven for tonight's dinner, as we speak. You can see the difference in cuts and marbling, from the pics.

Happy Holidays to all of you. Hope everyone has a joyous New Year.

I always stock up when they run it on sale, but I never eat as a roast. Kroger has them for 4.99/ choice limit one, but never said how big. I asked them for whole one and they said OK. Good prices are hard to come by right now. Better stock up on any good meat sale while you can. HEB has Butts for .87 cents per lb.

Made a total score this morning on the prime rib. The other day, I got mine with my digital coupon, and then the wife got her's also. There was something wrong with her app on her phone and our friendly manager just used her "manager over-ride" to fix it. The coupon didn't get used, and it stayed valid in her cart. I asked her about it and she laughed, said they would sell 500 of those roasts in the next 10 days.

What a sweetheart - she told me to wait until Saturday, then come back in and use the coupon correctly, and get a big one. Buying a 21.5# whole saved me $215!! Vacuum packing steaks in my future!!
