Wow, I used them for years when I was working.

Central Freight Lines To Shut Down After 96 Years

Quote
2100 employees will be laid off right before Christmas. Central Freight Lines is the largest trucking company to close since Celadon ceased operations in 2019.

Waco, Texas-based Central Freight Lines has notified drivers, employees and customers that the less-than-truckload carrier plans to wind down operations on Monday after 96 years, the company’s president told FreightWaves on Saturday.....

Wow, how is that possible with the trucker shortage right now? This should be a boon for the trucking industry. I don't get it.

That’s terrible for the folks who work there and depend on those jobs.

Sad, I worked at the Dallas terminal for 8 years 1979-1987. A lot of good memories & made some good friends.

Wow have know several people that retired and still work for Central Freight Lines. The original owner of CFL is Woody Callan. On I35 outside of Waco between Hewitt and Lorena is Callan Ranch road that is where the old ranch used to be.

Must have had some deep financial problems to just close the doors. I thought the freight business was good right now.

Good, they sucked a$$ as a LTL carrier. One of the worst customer service departments Ive ever had to deal with in the freight world.

My dad worked there for awhile when he got out of the Army.

Wonder how much effect the price a fuel contributed.

Being in the business I can tell you the market is good but everybody's operating costs are way up these days. Central used to be a great carrier but I don't think their operating plan has been updated since about 1984. Those were the days of sell it cheap and it gets there when it gets there. Not sure why they closed the doors but if truck demand softens anytime soon more companies will follow.

I've only had one experience with a freight carrier and that was Central Freight Lines. I bought a 9" engine lathe years ago and had to go to the Central terminal in Houston. The place was MASSIVE.

I went to the first window that had a person in it. I have no idea if this was the right person to talk to or not, but this guy saw that I was not the obvious trucker and walked me personally through the task of getting my lathe including using a lift to get it on my trailer. This was customer service at its best, and from then on every time our family went somewhere the kids and I always had a competition on who saw the most Central Trucks.

I hope those displaced employees pick back up on their careers as fast as possible. I also hope Central tries a downsizing option and keeps it going. I still look for their trucks when on the road.

No doubt Biden did that. It's sad to see them go. They were one of the only freight companies to make rural home delivery. Good luck to the employees.

One shot is all it should take.

I remember when they had a huge terminal in Irving where the Texas Stadium was.

Between state and fedreal laws, tough buisness. Outside looking in, it appears to have a substantial overhead and unbillable hours. If truck is not moving, truck is not generating revenue.

If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?
