Unions probably killed them.
Screw Union workers. Based in Texas, so probably not unionized. I read that they couldn't keep drivers, so maybe they weren't paying rising market rates.

Being in the business I can tell you the market is good but everybody's operating costs are way up these days. Central used to be a great carrier but I don't think their operating plan has been updated since about 1984. Those were the days of sell it cheap and it gets there when it gets there. Not sure why they closed the doors but if truck demand softens anytime soon more companies will follow.
Figured this had lots to do with it. Same as Tandy, Montgomery Wards, KMart and many other corporations that didn't keep up with the times.

Don't think Central ever organized. Unions probably killed them.
Screw Union workers. Man didn't know that, still a sad deal, even more now.

Sad deal
Even more so after seeing the news story about the delivery driver that dumped all his packages in the ditch to keep from doing the work

Good, they sucked a$$ as a LTL carrier. One of the worst customer service departments Ive ever had to deal with in the freight world. I'm sorry for all of the folks losing their jobs. In general, LTL is a difficult business to work with, though some do a very good job. Throw in customers who don't pay attention to details you give them on how to receive/document a shipment and it's a f'in hairball. Charlie

Why do these joints always close around a holiday?
I would imagine it has more to do with the end of the year and taxes that would be due.

My FIL and several of his brothers all worked at the CFL hub in Irving for years. They were there from back in the early 70's and some on them stayed into the early 2000's. They were drivers and a couple in dispatch.
