I agree hook. Also, you have a very target rich environment! Where I was hunting was nothing like that. The feeder above is 175 yards and the top of the hill was 300. Last place I hunted, feeder was 194 that is why I sighted at 200. up

Bottom line, take the time to sight in your rifle properly, know your limitations and you won't be the guy telling the story about shooting over a monsters back. cheers

Great info here, I appreciate all the feedback. I got in a hurry 2 years ago and shot over the back of a giant and it's been haunting me ever since. Been planning on sighting it in and zeroing at my feeder range of around 100-120 but haven't been able to make the time. This gives me a lot more confidence (and highlights the fact I need to make more time at the range)

this is old school thinking... I remember when i was nine or ten, this is the way my dad sighted our rifles in... long before all the range finders, etc. 3" high at 100 would produce about 3" low at 300 in a good flat shooting caliber. So you were always good shooting center shoulder anywhere out to 300 yards.

This is how I was taught to sight in a rifle back in the day. Nowadays I sight in all of mine at 200 yards since on the place I hunt the longest shot on the whole place is 243 yards.

I shoot 130 grain hand loads with 54 grains dupont 4350 powder and sight in at 25 yards dead on which brings it in at a tad (1/2") high at 200 yards. Easy to sight in at 25 yards and don't have to have a spotting scope while making adjustments.
