Well this evening I got to break in my 257 Weatherby on a nice Guadalupe county deer. The shot was a 140ish yards and with a shot to the point of the shoulder with 120 grain nosler partitions he folded up and was dead before he it the ground. The bullet passed clean through, and while there was a nasty entrance/exit wound and a lot of heart/lung soup, there was very little blood shot meat on the shoulder to my surprise. The deer was a new deer never seen on camera. He came out about 4:30 and he got my heart pumping and adrenaline through the rough and that’s all I need to know before shooting a deer. City limits of new Braunfels are roughly a mile as a crow flies. A great Sunday hunt, with my girlfriend she every filmed the shot for me (would post but I don’t know how to do a video)
. Got to clean him in the front yard of our new house and cooked the tender loins on the fire pit we had going. My mom and dad came over for pork chops and helped clean him and visited for a while. Even broke in the new skinning rack my dad and I just built. All in all a great Sunday and a great start to the 2021 deer season for us.
