After a lil' fire and some obscure COVID event, the Wurstfest grounds are just about ready to receive the annual pilgrimage of thousands who come out looking for a good time and enjoy German music and all kinds of really good festival food. Looking forward to that. It'll take place starting on the Friday before the opening of general gun season and last through the following week. It's free to get in Monday through Thursday.

The venerable 118 year old Wursthalle is looking pretty snappy with its new roof.


We are hoping the new Marketplatz is a game changer. No public funds used (zero).

Somes showed up apparently looking for a good time. I thinks lots had just that. It was a glorious feeling to see the thong enjoying itself. Lots of good people in Comal County this weekend, lots. These are scenes from just part of the 14 acre grounds.

I even took a selfie. Must be a natural at it cuz I didn't even know I had done it.

Plan is wife and I hit Wurstfest this evening. Will be looking for following food items - sausage on a stick, shrimp on a stick, chocolate eclair, and wash it all down with a cold Shiner Bock.

Half over, the Festival is going great guns. The weather has been ever so "cooperative". The new Marketplatz has helped to relieve congestion and improve flows. Vendors are knocking it out of the park. Lots of peoples finding the good times they have been looking for. The pent up demand is obvious. The almost total lack of masks has also been saliently obvious.

Couldn’t believe there was that many people there on a Tuesday night!

After the lil' Spanish Flu event of 1918-1920, a period came along known as the Roaring 20's. That might being replicated right now. The pent up demand for socialization and getting things back to normal has led to larger than expected crowds. Being free on weeknights is being consumed by large numbers of people.

It's all good. I saw lots and lots of smiling, happy faces.

PSA— leave your pocket knife at home or in your vehicle. If you have to hide it because you show up at the gate with it, don’t hide it in the bushes or close to the gate. The PoPo looks around these places for hidden treasure.

Wow. That’s crazy.

Realizing we gets lots of people on our grounds at our lil' ten day event, we consulted with NBPD & County Sherriff's Office as well as heads of security for other large events. Our security budget is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and includes our own security chief, Dozens of paid officers, dozens from a private security company, metal detection, cameras all over the place, bag checks, a lengthy list of prohibited items and more. Our aim is to provide a safe environment for people to enjoy themselves in.

I lost the battle with the pocket knives and they are no longer allowed. I have one with me every day of my life. Even so, Security should not be making the search Rust so described outside of our gates. This will be addressed.

It just caught me by surprise Hud. I had the same thing happen at Minute Maid Park a couple years ago, but luckily a Houston PD officer directing traffic held it for me til after the game.
Since first attending this event in 1980, I guess the world has changed. Even in New Braunfels.

Veterans Day is observed in earnest at Wurstfest. The Veterans Salute was well attended and extremely well received. Multiple venues loaded up with patriotic songs and chants of USA were resounding. It felt really good, as in really, really good. Provides faith and hope in what is to come.

Alex Meixner brought down the house with his rendition of Amazing Grace played on a beer bong. It was haunting. Much of the crowd stood quietly almost as if in disbelief only to absolutely erupt when complete.

They think an incandescent light bulb was left on and caught some cardboard on fire. All the things that could a happened and it was that.

An unbelievable ten days. Weather and new stuff created a demand which good people came out to see. Mind boggling it was.

Something we noticed - very few face masks and a very well behaved group of people. Leaves somes wondering if the masked peoples staying at home increased good behavior on the grounds. Addition by subtraction it may have been. Anyways, more people than in the in the past and it seemed like less people because the new facilities flowed so well.

Just cleaning up now. Here's a few "dead soldiers" from one of the places that served refreshments.
