If it's in Dallas I believe it's cashless if it's under $750.00 and you can prove you are a shoplifter...

I remember back in 89 or 90 when the Burger King down the street from my office started accepting credit cards. I want to say they were one of the first fast food places to accept credit cards and I think they even had commercials on TV about it. Everyone thought Oh my God, who would ever use a credit card to buy fast food, it's too slow and holds up the line. My how times have changed. In the past year, I can probably count the number of times I've used cash at a fast food place on one hand.

Thanks,
Rich

When the coronavirus outbreak hit, this trend accelerated. A study by payment processing company Square found that between March 1 and April 23 of 2020, the number of its users in the United States that were “essentially cashless” rose from 8% to 31%. In Canada, Australia, and Great Britain, cashless payments rose even more sharply.

For businesses, going cash-free offers several significant advantages:
Fewer Germs. When businesses reopened after the first wave of COVID-19 closures, many chose to limit the use of germ-laden bills and coins. Takumi Hirose, a Tokyo stationery shop owner interviewed by Square, explains he’s moving toward a cashless model because so many customers now see cash as “unclean and unwelcome.”

Reduced Risk of Robbery. Any business that handles lots of cash every day is at risk of being robbed. David Friedman, proprietor of the Chicago-based Epic Burger chain, told the Los Angeles Times he decided to go cash-free after his restaurants suffered a total of six armed robberies and burglaries over eight years.

No Counterfeit Bills. In addition to thefts, stores and restaurants often lose money when customers pay with counterfeit bills. Friedman said his restaurants handled “dozens and dozens” of fake bills in the years before going cashless. Eliminating cash closes off that avenue of fraud.

Not all those that wander are lost..

There have been two instances in the last few years where I went to the bank and their system was down. If these places go all electronic payment they will learn the value of cash as soon as their system or a banks system goes down and they cant conduct buisness until its back up and running. Even those old school carbon copy card swipers wont work with a lot of the cards now days because alot of the cards dont have raised numbers anymore. Most cards are going to the chip. Electronic systems are bound to fail one way or another.

Wait 'til strippers start taking credit cards only. Then you'll know things are really bad.

I’ve seen bums at intersections with cardboard signs on how to pay them electronically. I’m sure strippers offer a similar service.

Before the pandemic, one of my co-workers was wanting to go cashless for our customer service desk. He didn't like the fact that he as the supervisor had to count the daily deposits before taking them to another department to 'deposit' it into our account (we work at a university). Plus, God love 'em, but some of the student workers really didn't understand how to count down a drawer, or how to get change for the drawer, etc. (one honestly did not understand when you take $120 in twenties out to go get $120 in smaller bills and put it back in the drawer...they didn't understand how the drawer wasn't still short $120 because the twenties were now gone... bang) So, when the pandemic hit, we stopped collecting cash and there is no plan for our department to ever collect cash again...So, yeah....the supervisor isn't a leftie, he's lazy.

It is too easy for one dishonest employee to skim cash off on a regular basis. With CC the tally of the register has to match the receipts.

I knew a couple girls who worked as waitress at Cabaret Royale in Dallas back when it was the hot club, they would skim large tips off drunk customers credit card payments, this was back in the mid 80's

Yep that was quite common at strip clubs back then and yes Cabaret Royale was the hot spot back then.

Big box stores are eliminating cashiers. Go through self checkout and miss scan an item and now you are a shoplifter! If forced to use self checkout I always have a' problem' and need help.

You do realize that the cash in your pocket only has value because the government says it does, right?? I don’t see how that is any less dependent on the “system” than a credit/debit card is.

What is the purchasing power of your card in a power outage or if the computer system goes down? The value of a dollar is universal, whether using cash or card. Using only plastic completely eliminates purchasing items from individuals who are not setup to accept cards. If you want every purchase you make taxed, the e-trail is what will facilitate that. I say be careful digging up more snakes than you can kill…
