Put in for the GDE hunt there and drew. I fished the lake many years ago and had a blast. The WMA looks like a pretty wet place to me. Wondering how thick the cover is, deer density, should I bring a boat etc.

Lots of deer and they keep it pretty well maintained from all the work we’ve personally done on it over the years. I’ve never hunted it but I’ve seen some big deer on it over the years. I have no clue where you drew a hunt from but if I had a boat I’d be heading over to the area that borders Camp Maxey myself hint hint lol.

Ive done alot of prescribed burning out there. Lots of hardwood. Pretty nice place! Are you assigned a specific unit?

Last time I went (which was yearsssss ago) you drew for the unit on location at the start of the hunt. Plenty of thick cover and yes, it is wet. No 4-wheelers allowed so be ready to pack in and out. I saw a few deer but nothing to shoot. I recommend getting in there early and staying all day because, at the time I hunted, a lot of the hunters were moving in and out of their compartments and that had the deer moving too. It's pretty country but thick and well-hunted from what I could tell.

Trying to get a posse together to get out there and do some bow hunting when the season opens to get some scouting done. Looks like a canoe or small boat with a motor might be just the ticket and hunt the south end. screen capture

That’s just corps land, no permit needed for any type of hunt. Just follow state rules and regs
