This one lasted me around 5 years and wasn't terribly expensive. I think Swine and Tines builds one similiar that I have now. Works really well.

How sensitive is the motion detector?

Wouldn't a squirrel or anything else large enough to be detected...set off all day long?

Id say it was fairly sensitive. The solar panel keeps the battery charged just fine and I never had an issue with it. With this unit it comes on very gradually and is a mixture of green and red lights. Pretty cool to look out across the pasture and know its time to grab the rifle and go pop a pig or two.

I've had it happen more time than I care to remember...even with 60" high panels. But trapping is still worthwhile.

MANY hogs will attempt to jump out....so you need to have a sturdy trap. Others will attempt to climb the panels, some make it, some don't.

Putting a pen around a feeder, even a fairly low one, will do a lot to keep hogs out. Hogs will indeed climb OUT of a trap, but they aren't usually as interested in getting INTO one. Texas A&M studies have shown that even a 28" high fence is effective.

I personally like the Slo Glow Lights from TX...made well and maintenance free.
Mine work great and allow me to stalk pretty close when you approach from behind the light. A shotgun is all that is needed...multi kills with 12 GA 00 buckshot
See their web site:

Not true. I manage my feral hog numbers with traps, minimizing the damage to my pastures, very effectively. I routinely trap 30+ at a time.
Due to a few jumpers (yes pigs can fly) I have since raised the panel height to 8 foot.
