We got our first batch of the year done last week. Second batch in the incubator now. Also just got a frame for a new chicken coop , going to be a nice one when I'm done.

They're kind of average for meat production, above average for eggs

Most of my chickens are crossed between leghorns and RIR and are a little over a year old and for the last 6 months we are getting 4 to 6 eggs a day and from the 4 that are that mix rarely miss a day laying.

Ok looks like a couple of the chickens have mites, what is the best way to get rid of them?

Losing one a week during the day to a cat or fox. Pretty upsetting. About to trap I'm afraid.

I finally gave up when I got down to 2 hens left, it just wasn't worth the stress. I was outside walking our dogs this morning and saw the local Red Tailed Hawks setting up near my neighbors coops.

Diatematious powder, sprinkle on floor and dust the chickens. Buy from feed store.

I had eight in my city yard for years. I usually had about 100 eggs in the fridge. When they stopped laying I gave them away. Too much work and expense. I like having my yard back...and my garden...and my time.

Pass the gravy.

I have heard of an egg sucking dog. There is actually a Johnny Cash song about it. No where in my whole wide world have I ever heard of an egg sucking bobcat.

Now we're leaning towards a hawk being the offender. Have only trapped a possum and lost another between noon and sundown. I'm either going to expand their run and only turn them loose for a few hours a day or hope the hawk moves on. Seems like the kites push the native hawks out every year but they stuck around this year. I did move a scarecrow out where the killings are happening. Planning on doing some other hawk preventative stuff too. We'll see.

When chickens stop laying it's because they go into a molt thing.Put some hot sauce in their water and they will start laying again.
