HVAC and building maintenance 40 plus years for me. Let me echo Lakota comnent about tools. A very expensive trade to be in. Almost as bad a as automotive mechanic. Plus, everybody thinks they know more than you. If I was considering a mechanical trade... commercial refrigeration is where I made made the biggest return on my investments. Ice machines, coolers, walkins and reach ins.

But. What ever you choose.
You need to be better than your peers.
Do something nobody wants to do.
Or
Do something the average guy cant do or thinks he can do after watching a youtube video.

If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

I had a buddy who was 35 and wanted to get into plumbing. He was told the first 2 years was 80 hours a week at $12 an hour. He could not be away from his wife and young son for 2 years at that pay.

I assume electric would be similar.

I started my company because I worked for a company that stopped paying me my commissions.

Go with something you know. With doing good customer service, do what you say you will do, and do it right. Doing those things will make you money in a good or bad economy.

I'm with RayB. Instrumentation, electronics, controls technician. I retired from power plants five years ago and these folks were already in high demand. The training typically requires a couple of years

In DFW green electricians are about 17 an hour. Very hard to swallow for sure

If your personal and financial situation allow you to spend a few years working as a helper and taking a pay cut, definitely electrician. My step-son is a licensed Master with a contractors license that does nothing but commercial work. Owns his own small business and does very well. Only problem he has now is the inability to grow his business due to the lack of licensed guys to hire. To start, be a helper that works for a very busy licensed master, take the classes and training, get licensed and you're on your way.

Nursing may not be an option for you. That's a bachelors degree for a good job as an RN. Sounds like you need to work full time while transitioning. If you have the time and opportunity to devote to it, great career path. GPA needs to up there, not the minimums to graduate but higher than average for the really good positions. My wife has been an RN for 40 years, has managed a large unit for one of the largest public hospitals for 30+, and yes, there is huge demand. But, a BSN and a good GPA is only the start of getting an interview.

Good luck to you, sounds like you have the right motives.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

Contractor License? What state is this in? No such thing as a contractor license in Texas

You only need a 2 year Associates Degree to sit for NCLEX in Texas to become a Registered Nurse. Community College is cheapest place for that.

This is true. As a traveler in med-surg or critical care you're probably going straight into the COVID units. I was in nursing 30 years (from HVAC) and traveling is where you can make money. And if you move you can most likely walk into any hospital and get a job. The exceptions used to be midwest and upper great plains. I retired 07/2020 after a bad bout with the COVID.

Physical / occupational therapy might be better and safer right now.

TDLR requires a contractor's license to be in the Electrical or HVAC trade.
