I think most any of them would do this.

I put down my son's lab mix myself. He was 17 and had a good life. Tough to do but he was not mobile. I was not going to pick up an 80 lb dog and put him in my truck. My daughters dog is 15 and due to bad joints the vet said she would not make 10. I have told my daughter twice in the last year to get ready but the dog recovers. She has a real will to live.

I put a goat down with a 20ga (it was the only handy weapon). All our dogs that didn't die in their sleep went to the vet. Will continue to go to the vet.

I've always gone to the vet......but this last time after speaking with one of my clients about their experience I called a vet that specializes in at home service.......she leaves with your dog and has the remains cremated and delivered to you.......I will go this route going forward.......she was great with him and he was calm because he was home with us.......

Oh man. This sounds very familiar. Had a German Shepherd that had the same symptoms, ended up being Degenerative Myelopathy. Awful to hear Creek. frown . I hope your pup has something different.

I’m about to have the talk with the wife about her dog. He’s 14, blind, deaf, has a hard time getting around, hates my 2 year old kid, and now he has started peeing in the house and I won’t stand for that.

My old dog, I believe she was 17, was in the same shape as this one. I told myself that when she can’t control her bowel movements, it’s her time.

I always got to the vet. Having shot a few dogs on-duty, it’s a hard thing to watch if they don’t die instantly.

I've done both. If feasible it'll be the vet. That's what happened last time 2 years ago. I bury with the FEL.

Had a male Lab put down at the vet. He was sick and weak, and laying on his side when I said goodbye. Never cried that hard in my whole adult life up till then or since. I can put down livestock. My own dog I just would rather not have to do myself. Really don't want to put down a friend's dog either. I've got too much of a soft spot for them.

This is the right answer either at the vet or at home. It’s sucks. frown

It’s too sad to take them to the vet. I did that once and will never do it again. Dig a hole, put one in the back of their head, cover up, and walk away.

I was crying like a baby at the vet and didn’t like people asking me questions.

I think it is less about you and more about the dog. If you were a dog, would you rather your owner hold you, and comfort you, while you are peacefully put down with an injection? Or a bullet in your head by your owner?

I watched my dad die Christmas Eve last year and I would have preferred a bullet to the back of the head. How is it about the dog? He’s dead either way. I’d rather go out instantly at the house.

My lab had to get another syringe full of dope because his heart was beating so sluggishly. That wasn’t fun. Frank, didn’t say anything but I don’t think he liked it either.

Damn. Sorry to hear this. Our lab had similar issues and by the time we got confirmation it was a specific type of cancer, we had to put him down. Life expectancy for his type is nine days. He made it 10. Hopefully it’s not what they’re immediate thought is, but good on you getting all the facts before making that decision.

Only time I’d do it myself is if it was an extreme emergency, like it was hit by a car and suffering really badly or a hunting accident or something. Otherwise, I take them to the vet.

My last dog was euthanized at the vet. Held him as he passed. I was crying and the staff was crying. They made all the arrangements for cremation. I got a signed card a few days later from the office and later was called to pick up the remains. There's a nice engraved wooden box that I can see from my easy chair.

My German Shepherd is the best dog ever! German Shepherd is the breed for me, from now on. About 5 minutes ago, the other two dogs laid on the floor, while Ranger followed me outside. I moved a derelict grill to scrap trailer, then a pallet of firewood to the fence line. The whole time he was no more than 20' from me. He goes with me, and that's that. Loyal as they get!

Always put them down myself. No kids around, obviously.

It was hard to pull the trigger a couple times, but was instant and needed to be done.

If I was suffering and dying I would want the same.

No sense in wasting money, the end result is the same and both means are humane.

Take to vet if possible. Last one was 14 and had a cyst rupture and was bleeding like hell on a Saturday night. Vet told me it would happen just to hope it happens during office hours. Well it didn’t and I had to do what I had to do so he didn’t just bleed out
